Actually there is some control if you go to the Appearance menu. Under

the Visual Effects tab it has "None", "Normal", "Extra".

If one does want finer control though then yea, you do have to install

the compiz settings manager. They probably should have just included that

by default.

Interestingly enough, when that is installed, the option "Custom" gets

added to Visual Styles which then launches the settings thing.

Promise software RAID cards are controversial - most distros (including

Ubuntu) won't accept the pseudo RAID at install, and have to be adjusted

later, in case the fix is known to work. Fedora 7 install just takes care of it.

If I insist on keeping Ubuntu virtualized, VirtualBox's extensions should try

to patch the kernel if I demand this as root. If I want desktop effects, I need

to do a real install - as by letting Ubuntu have a nice blank hard drive.

Microsoft is working on Vista's difficulties with copying files under some

circumstances, and hopefully the way UAC works as well. More distantly,

there is Windows 7. Windows XP might run better virtualized in Linux than

it does when it's controlling the computer - some user things for me to do this

winter. That might include horsing around with olpc, which has frames instead

of windows in its fc6-based Sugar GUI, designed for very limited hardware.

But the actual reference is much better.

Your unwillingness to point to the actual post where the actual facts

can be clearly seen is only a limitation of yours and says nothing

about anyone else.

It seems what you claim does not exist.

You probably forgot some detail or confused another poster since you

are unable to produce the source.

Doing that would be a complete waist of my time. Mike Hall's own

your typical response to things you don't want to hear is the equivalent

"plugging his ears and screaming"

You been unwilling to post the source.

Your analogy is flawed since it is you unwilling to prove your point.

"equivalent of a 5 yr old"

Your need to insult others when you lack the facts reflects on you and

no one else.

Your inability to prove accusations you make tells much of you and

nothing of anyone else.

Okay, the drives are all slide mounts but the IDE of course is

physically different so no mistake which is that disk - it won't fit on

any other place although if I get the cutting torch I could possibly

make it fit :)

The BIOS has an F12 boot drive selector...

The SATA alone boots perfectly, the IDE alone shows GRUB but then fails

with error 21 (Obviously because it's just data on that drive and no OS..

With both drives in place at this moment it is booting perfectly well,

whether I manually select the SATA drive with the OS on or not.

With both drives in place if I manually select the IDE drive it says

GRUB loading okay and then ESC to enter menu but then comes up with the

file not found...

That is the same error I found before...

SO for some reason before it was picking the wrong drive and finding

GRUB on there but not finding the OS - despite displaying it in the

list. There should be no boot loader on that IDE drive, so I think what

must have happened is that "Some" installer has put GRUB there in the

past but the OS install and formatting etc all took place on the SATA.

That all seems logical :)

First install I did (With the IDE in place) refused to boot at all,

manually selected drive or not, without the IDE in place, so for

whatever reason the first install must have put GRUB there and not on

the intended target. This later (Current) install HAS put GRUB on the

SATA drive so all is well except when on odd occasions the BIOS decides

to try the IDE drive. Seriously it does sometimes change, with Windoes

systems too :)

So I guess mystery solved, you are correct an the reason for the

randomness of the first few results I think was down to what mood the

BIOS happened to be in at the time.

So I'd have to guess that this BIOS behavior would also affect Windows

with 2 drives in place. Hmmm...

"I made a statement of fact."

One that you have demonstrated an inability to prove.

Therefore it is NOT a fact, at least not as far as you can prove.

"You clearly have no self control"

And yet it is you who has so little control that you med to make

You seem to need to slander others in a vain effort to make a point.

You were on the XP General group back then, fighting with Kurttrail.

Mike invited many people to email him privately for help. I guess he

doesn't do it for Vista because he doesn't know how to help anyone who

"Mike invited many people to email..."

For compensation/pay?

I discourage private discussions such at that since it increases the

chances of getting less than optimal information.

One of the advantages of newsgroups is information can be built on and

corrected which of course may not happen in private.

But then their are some who I would trust privately while others I

would not.

I do not recall his post.

That does not mean I am claiming it does not exist.

But I doubt it exists and if Poster could simply give the

link/reference, that would be it.

The source would remove any doubt/confusion since there would be less

room for interpretation with the facts in the open.

Right now, the facts are very cloudy since there is no source.

Perhaps he has simply forgotten, but that also has never been stated.

Otherwise the claim is hearsay at best.

Yes you are:

"But the actual reference is much better.

Your unwillingness to point to the actual post where the actual facts

can be clearly seen is only a limitation of yours and says nothing about

anyone else.

It seems what you claim does not exist.

You probably forgot some detail or confused another poster since you are

unable to produce the source.

The above was a post you made yesterday. "It seems what you claim does

not exist..."

If you are going to lie JJ, try to at least keep your story straight.

You are also continuing to show you have no self control because you are

still replying to this thread about a topic that was not addressed to

you and never had anything to do with you. At least it seems that Mike

had enough common sense and self control to walk away.

It's not hearsay when you have multiple witnesses!

"It seems what you claim does not exist."

Again, you missed a word.

"seems"

You can misunderstand what I said whether it be deliberate or

accidental.

I did not mean to say it does not exist.

I have seen no proof it does.

However you are unable to give the source and what you say leaves

doubts of intent what exactly what he may have said.

Can you locate the source or not?

Is it simply one of to many post for you to find?

Or is it convenient for you to claim was said what at least one other

claims does not exist?

You claim it exists, the burden of proof is on you.

Without the source it is hearsay and NOT a verifiable fact.

Re: Linux is FREE....Where are the users??????????????? LINUX is FREE...Where are it's users???????????????????

The discussion at the time was about munging e-mail addresses, and I stated

that I do not hide mine and that people are free to e-mail if they prefer,

but that e-mailing was not in the best interests of the newsgroup.

Soliciting for business that is NOT, and the only person who insinuated

anything was you. Nobody else agreed with you, others just making the point

that I was inviting spam. You had no case then and little has changed, most

especially your panache for insulting others. You have not been forgotten in

the XP newsgroups, btw. :-)

I don't care if you solicit business or not, Mike. After all, you do

have to make a living and if someone is willing to pay you for your

advice, go for it.

Re: Linux is FREE....Where are the users??????????????? LINUX is FREE...Where are it's users???????????????????

There was a short discussion about munging e-mails and using an alias. My

stand was not to hide, either behind a false name or munged e-mail address,

that people were free to use my e-mail address if they preferred, but that

it was not in the interests of the newsgroup. Alias, in his inimitable

style, chose to twist what I had said, but only the MS/MVP haters stood with

him. He does it to others too..

That sounds a lot different than what he claims.

I suppose I can stretch to get to his assumption, but it is a stretch.

That may explain his refusal to post the source assuming he has it.

My guess is he remembers the way he understood but can not locate the

source, which is somewhat understandable.
