How to change default User Folder Creation in Windows Server 2008

Hi,

 

I am very new to Windows Server 2008, I have installed windows small business server 2008 Standard for my company.

 

This is my problem:

 

The server has 2 drives connected.

 

Windows is installed on drive C:

Data Drive is drive D:

 

I need to change the default folder creation for new Users to the D:\ Drive instead of the C:\ Drive.

 

Every time a new user is created their account folder is created in c:\Users\Shares\Username

 

I need to change this to

D:\Users\Shares\Username

 

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

First off welcome to the site.

 

You can use the server manager, user manager to change the settings.

thanks, i would like this to be done automatically instead of doing it manually for each and every user. At the moment windows creates the users directory in a default location c:\Users\Shares

 

I would like to change that default location so that on user creation it will be done automatically in the new Location which would be my D:\ Drive

By using the user manager you can set the default user dir. Whne new users are created on the box they will have the dir created to the path you set.

The only user management that i can find on the small business server is under the active directory tabs in server manager? and in my domain I go to My Users Directory and there I can see all my users. When going to the users properties I can only set individual settings?

 

Am i missing something somewhere?

Hate to Steal the thread but I am having same problem but with Windows Server 2008 R2 enterprise.

 

I think the answer lies in some sort of group policy editor, but it's lost in the mess .

 

Any ideas how to set the default user's folder to a different drive?

I'm not sure why the difference, but it doesn't appear to be supported for 2008 NON-SBS versions. It appears to be possible, but that link lays out some pretty strong reasons for not doing it -- like not being able to apply any updates.
