If Ubuntu, or any other Linux distribution, wants to be a Windows Desktop

Replacement, it had better be able to run Window programs - much like OS/2

was able to do. If not it will never be a replacement for Windows, as the

chance of every single manufacturer porting their programs over to Linux is

slim to non existent.

Yeah, you're incapable of installing it. Vista was preinstalled for you,

You're confused as usual, Frank. Vista is the toy, only good for some

games and games in the future. The same is true for XP, which is the

only reason I still have XP.

I see Linux as a replacement to Windows as in

getting away from Microsoft.

Not as in Just like Windows but different.

It's not close to a replacement unless you're a home user that doesn't

need the latest (even older) hardware support and doesn't want to play

the latest games and doesn't want to work with people that use MS Office

for more than BASIC documents.

If you don't need those things, then it's not a REPLACEMENT, it's a

different solution path and a different model.

That's funny when Linux's biggest growth in

switching from windows to Linux

is in the pro group and not home users.

And Linux users who need CAD, can look here for some Linux options ...

http://www.tech-edv.co.at/lunix/CADlinks.html

Those who want to use what the US military uses for CAD, can get BRL-CAD.

Just had to parents ask me how their kids could get AutoCAD because they

are using it at school High School and would like to be able to run it

at home.

While there are O/S alternatives, they don't teach those in schools,

they teach AutoCAD as a standard.

So don't use google.

They love to track you anyway.

You have a lot to learn about selling linux.. if you insist on calling linux

user and potential linux user by insulting names you will just make them

glad that they have an alternative to linux where they don't have to mix

with cretins like you.

Do Linux a favor and buy a mac, preferably a big mac as it will keep you off

the internet.

That's because they are not compatible with AutoCad.

Autocad isn't even compatible with itself if you

go back more than one

version. AutoCad is worse than MS.

Probably.. it takes a lot of effort to learn a CAD system so they are

unlikely to want to change what they have.

However it might be a nice toy to have a play with for those of us that

don't actually need CAD.

Yes it is the standard. Expensive, and not even

compatible with itself if you go back

more than one version.

AutoCad is a bad example as it is worse than MS is

shutting everyone else out.

You don't appear to have used AutoACD before, or you would just spout

things you don't know about. Fact is that AutoCAD can open older

documents, but like many updated program, it may have trouble importing

documents from 5 rev's ago - 1 rev is never a problem.

AutoCAD is a good example of what's wrong with Linux - the idiots that

push linux, instead of being realistic, claim that everything can be

replaced with Linux and the Open Source apps. If you zealots were just

half-way honest you would admit that many of the OSA are just as bad or

worse than their MS counterparts - and almost always lacking in features

that most Win people have gotten use to.

More "wisdom" from Dennis, the world class wannabe computer expert.

News Flash, nearly all major web sites use cookies or other means to

"track" visitor's surfing habits. Funny you would bring that up and

not comment on Microsoft spying behind customer's backs with Vista

phoning home to be sure you were using a legit copy of Windows.

Originally Microsoft claimed they didn't spy on their customers, then

they were outed after one of the trade magazines showed how Vista was

phoning home DAILY, then Microsoft said oops, caught us, and cut it

back to less often.

I'll buy you a steak dinner if you go away. Deal?

I must admit I would miss slapping a dummy like you around. It's too

damn easy.

Well why the hell not, you do it all the time.

Thanks, I will take a look at the latter since it will be a point and

click install, better find out why every user (and his dog) needs some

kind of CAD program eh?

And that's a perfectly good reason for running Windows, nobody as far as

I can tell has denied that, or maybe a VMware machine running on Linux

so when something crashes it doesn't hose the entire system :)

What percentage of students will take relevant studies and what does the

license cost?
