Hallo,

I am new to Windows Server 2008 and I have a problem

regarding folder/file or sharing permissions (x64).

In the morning when the users log in they can view and open the folders/files in D:\User\Cad\

within the windows file explorer (WinXP Clients) but not when running an old CAD program (16 bit?) windows application using its own file browser - only files created by the user are visible to himself.

The weird thing is when I change some permission setting for the folder D:\User\Cad and reset the changes afterwards the users are able to see all the files with the CAD programs file browser until the next morning.

My shared folder "user" on drive "D" (D:\User)

has the share (Freigabe) permission settings for

"Domain-User" and an own defined group

"Cad" each with full permissions "read/write/full access".

Under "security" (Sicherheit) I have granted the "Domain-User" group "read/execute,read and list folders" rights.

D:\User contains a subdirectory "Cad" with several subdirectories (D:\User\Cad\) with security permission "read,execute/read//list folders" for the "Domain-User" and "Cad" groups and two special permission settings for the group "Cad"

1. for "this folder, subfolder: folder list/folder execute/read attributes/read extended attributes/create files-write files".

2. for "files only: full access (everything granted).

Any ideas what i may have done wrong ?

Please let me know whether you need addtional information.

The server is running a Windows Server 2008 (German language) so some translations may be wrong, sorry for my bad English.

Best regards,

Ingo

The old CAD program seems to ignore / not list files without an archive bit set.

As a work around I have changed the backup now to just copy the files and don't clear the archive bit (as I do full backups I have no need for the archive bit at the moment).
