dblake Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Hi all, Fresh install of Windows 2008 Standard. AMD 5200 CPU SATA HD 2Gig Ram Gigabit Nic into a Gigabit switch Running DNS, DHCP & AD I am copying directories of 17-20Gig of files into new empty directories on the server from a Windows XP Pro notebook with a gigabit NIC. Tried these methods: UNC path & mapped drive with the same results The files are transfering at less than 1MB/s! I also get the "File Already Exists" dialog box for many of the files. This is impossible seeing as I'm copying into an empty directory. I remoted into the server from this notebook and copied the files using Windows 2008 Explorer and they transfered at an average of 6.5MB/s. That's better, but... It also makes me think it's not hardware related seeing as I can get better transfer rates using a different protocol. Any suggestions  Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted January 17, 2009 FPCH Admin Posted January 17, 2009 I've had this happen to me. I was never able to figure out what caused the problems. After the server was up and running for a few days things seemed to smooth out. maybe it has something to do with the indexing service. try turning it off and see if it helps. dblake Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 Nope, I turned indexing off as soon as I finished the installation a week ago. I never did like the way it could hide files in Vista when I searched for files I knew were there but not indexed. Just for jollies I'm going to remove the gigabit switch and put in a 10/100 to see how that effects performance. I don't think it's the problem but I can definitively say so after that test. FPCH Admin AWS Posted January 17, 2009 FPCH Admin Posted January 17, 2009 Let me know if it helps. Vista has always had a problem copying files slowly. It seems to be fixed in Windows 7. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
