Posted January 10, 201014 yr Can I install a 64 bit Windows 7 on a computer that currently has a 32 bit version of Vista? I think that my hardware can handle a 64 bit Operating System. I tried to install a 64 bit version of Windows 7 but the installation program checked my current Operating System and stopped. Is there any way to override this? How can I make sure my hardware can handle the 64 bit OS? (I build this computer from scratch) I do not think this will delete my hard drive. Will it?
January 11, 201014 yr FPCH Admin You will have to do a clean install of Windows 7 64bit wiping away the Windows 7 32bit install. You can't upgrade to Windows 7 64bit from Windows 732bit. Post your hardware specs and we'll be able to tell you if your hardware supports Windows 7 64bit. Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
August 5, 201113 yr FPCH Admin Yes there is a 32 bit version, but, if you want to go from 32bit to 64bit you have to install clean. The op could have upgrade Vista 32 to Windows 7 32, but, not to 64. Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
August 31, 201113 yr It is not possible to install Windows 7 (64 Bit) over Windows 7 (32 Bit). As your system need to be compatible with higher version (64 Bits).
