Can't click on buttons and zones. Like local freeze.

Hello,

I had a bad bug on Vista but I've found a way to fix it up.

I post the solution here because I've found no solution on Internet

when I had the bug.

One day, my laptop with Vista got a strange behaviour. I cannot click

on zones like buttons, list boxes, text boxes... Just like if they

freeze. This used to happen just after the login screen, with quite

all applications (FireFox, Control Panel...) but not all. With quite

all windows or

dialog boxes but not all.

Exceptions: I could always click on the Exit button of all windows.

The Task Manager had no problem.

Specific: When I went to Task Manager and kill the process named

"dwm.exe" (Desktop Window Manager) then the bug disappeared until

Vista restarted.

This is the kind of bug that could drive you mad.

Here is what I've done:

My Laptop is a Asus G1. I uninstalled several applications and the bug

is gone (see the list below). I've reinstalled the applications and

the bug never came back. I believe the guilty application is ATKOSD2

(an Asus driver). When it was uninstalled, there was another process

names "ATKOSD" instead of "ATKOSD2".

Uninstalled applications:

--------------------------

Asus Direct Consol (an Asus driver/application to manage specific leds

on the laptop)

ATKOSD2 (an undocumented Asus driver, I'd like to know what is is done

for)

Splendid (an Asus application to tune the color rendering of the

screen)

Asus MultiFrame (an Asus utility to move windows)

Power4Gear (an Asus utility adding special profiles for power

management of your labtop)

Java (the latest version)

I hope this will help someone...
