Posted September 21, 200717 yr I had this problem, and I tried the "remove this KB and that KB" approach with no luck. So I downloaded the full "Update Rollup 2" installer (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e5daf37e-e243-4410-bc51-81cf2b56fe6e) and gave that a go. It failed, too. BUT... I was then able to go through the "MCSetup.log" file it created, and I discovered that it was actually the KB895572 package which was spitting out the 0x643 error code. And when I looked at the "KB895572.log", I found the reason - which makes absolutely no sense, of course: KB895572 is an update for Window Media Player 10, and if you attempt to install it silently onto a system where Media Player *11* is installed, it fails with an error code, which is then mapped to the 0x643 error code I've come to love SOOO much. Basically, the error is something along the lines of "This update is for Media Player 10. It will fail if the files it includes are already installed". Brain dead. The *correct* behavior, IMGHO, would be for it to return a SUCCESS code if the files are already up to date, and NOT a failure code! Anyway, the solution for me was quite simple: Uninstall Media Player 11, install the Update Rollup 2, and then reinstall Media Player 11. Problem solved. - NL "updates" wrote: > please help my/ tks > > Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB900325) > Installation Failure > > Error Code: 0x643 > Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following > resources. > > For self-help options: > > Frequently Asked Questions > Find Solutions > Windows Update Newsgroup > > For assisted support options: > > > Microsoft Online Assisted Support (no-cost for issues related to getting > updates) >
