I have the following problem with Windows desktop search.

We have a network share, with a hidden folder for snapshots. If you descend

to this hidden folder, it looks like there are about 20 copies of all the

files on the network share.

Windows desktop search is indexing this hidden folder and is therefore

bloating the search results by a factor of 20.

Because the folder is hidden, I cannot tell Windows desktop search to

exclude it. I cannot unhide this share as it is a function of the Filer. I

don't have the privilege to change the properties of this folder.

I have tried simulating the default exclusion that can be set by group

policy by creating the relevant registry keys. I know this is working

because I have also done it for a local folder. However Windows desktop

search still indexes my hidden folder on the network share despite being told

not to.

Is there any way I can get Windows desktop search to ignore hidden or system

folders?

Thanks
