If you manage an organization or team, you may have wondered...

  • How do I give regular updates to my team on goal progress and context on the "why”—without adding even more work to my plate tracking down data points, gathering information from key stakeholders, and choosing the right format?
  • How do I keep the team focused and motivated as priorities shift?
  • What are the right rhythms of business for communicating goals to my team?

And your employees are wondering...

  • Is our team “doing well”? How are we progressing towards our goals?
  • Am I working on the right things? How am I contributing?
  • When can I expect communication from my leaders in an accessible and engaging format?

Sharing Updates to Outlook with Goal Broadcast

With Goal Broadcasts, just released in Viva Goals, leaders can share progress and updates on goals with all necessary members of the team and even more broadly throughout the organization, via Outlook email. All it takes is a few clicks in Viva Goals.

  • Click on the “Share” button directly from your team’s OKR view, select “Share an update,” and a draft email will be loaded up for you with text placeholders for section titles. Simply fill out the information most relevant to your team.
  • Team members will receive actionable emails in Outlook and can react and comment on updates, improving engagement along with visibility.
  • When Copilot in Viva Goals is released later this year, Copilot will write the first draft of this summary for you, originating content from check-in information within Viva Goals

Leaders can use this feature to send out interactive emails during key checkpoints. Some examples include:

  • Signaling the conclusion of planning and providing strategic direction
  • Sharing monthly newsletters and progress updates for the team in a clean, easily digestible format
  • Giving updates throughout the quarter at pivotal moments
  • Reflecting back and sharing learnings at the end of the business cycle

How to use Goal Broadcasts in Viva Goals

When it’s time to share an update with employees, team and org owners, admins in Viva Goals will now have the ability to “Share an update” from the Share menu.

Let’s say the planning phase has concluded at your organization and your OKRs for the quarter are ready to be shared to the broader team:

Step 1: From the share menu, select “Share an update”

Step 3: Make sure notifications are turned on to reach your audience in their mailboxes.

Step 4: Check your recipients to see if your entire team is present. If anyone is missing, you can add them with group addition.
