Save/attach Dialog box performance

my laptop running xppro with 2gig of memory and a way fast cpu runs very

well and response in most all programs is instanteous. However when I am

trying to save as or doing an insert file dialog it is oh sooo slow. For

instance, save as always defaults to My Documents which comes up

immediately. But when I hit the dropdown, to show the drives, it sometimes

takes more than 30 seconds. Then when I double click on a directory, it

might take another 30 seconds. What can I do to fix this?
