PostgreSQL is a powerful, open-source object-relational database system with over 35 years of active development that has earned it a strong reputation for reliability, feature robustness, and performance. The origins of PostgreSQL date back to 1986 as part of the POSTGRES project at the University of California at Berkeley and has more than 35 years of active development on the core platform.

Azure Active Directory (AAD) authentication in PostgreSQL Flexible Server

Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) authentication is a mechanism of connecting to Azure Database for PostgreSQL using identities defined in Azure AD. With Azure AD authentication, you can manage database user identities and other Microsoft services in a central location, which simplifies permission management.

Today, we are proud to announce General Availability for AAD authentication feature in Azure Database for PostgreSQL - Flexible Server worldwide!

  • Management of password policies and password rotation in a single place
  • Multiple forms of authentication supported by Azure Active Directory, which can eliminate the need to store passwords
  • Customers can manage database permissions using external (Azure AD) groups.
