Guest Mark Kashman Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Happy holidays. We hope you’ve found time to relax and unwind a little. Our wish is that you got to where you wanted to be without delay. And that the balance of work and life found balance with the spoils of some good living. Beyond time off, our teams spent most of December refining the cloud, improving it for your return to work – whenever that may be, maybe already, maybe not until the early dawn of 2023. Below and in the related podcast, you’ll find details about all the new offerings: Microsoft Syntex Pay-as-you-go (Preview), search video transcript for Stream (on SharePoint), SharePoint Apps: Add to teams when enabling an app, OneDrive: Sensitivity labels appear on the sharing dialog, OneDrive sync reports (GA), SharePoint sites search in usage analytics, Microsoft Teams Premium (Preview), Microsoft Whiteboard mobile apps, and more. We also pulled audio from my co-host, Chris McNulty - Director of product marketing for Syntex and Viva – from his recent keynote segment during the European SharePoint Conference to provide an update on all things Microsoft Syntex. It's a packed episode + blog package – with a holiday bow ta boot (holiday bow = highlight of the Top 5 SharePoint and related technology from all of 2022 + a new SharePoint poem); listen and scroll, listen and scroll… The Intrazone Roadmap Pitstop: December 2022 All features listed below began rolling out to Targeted Release customers in Microsoft 365 as of December 2022 (possibly early January 2023). Inform and engage with dynamic employee experiences Build your intelligent intranet on SharePoint in Microsoft 365 and get the benefits of investing in business outcomes – reducing IT and development costs, increasing business speed and agility, and up-leveling the dynamic, personalized, and welcoming nature of your intranet. Microsoft Syntex Pay-as-you-go (Preview) You never know if a new licensing model works for you and your use of new tech. This preview allows you to track unstructured document processing events at no cost to assess usage and estimate costs for a future pay-as-you-go license. Start by entering your Azure subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center, you will join the preview of the pay-as-you-go functionality for unstructured and prebuilt document processing (formerly document understanding). Processing events will be sent to the Azure meter in your account so that you will be able to view the pages processed for unstructured and prebuilt document processing models. For the duration of the preview, you will not be charged anything. The billing meter will function only to show you pages processed in your organization. To configure Microsoft Syntex billing, go to the Microsoft 365 admin center, select Setup, and then view the Files and content section. In the Files and content section, select Use content AI with Microsoft Syntex. On the Microsoft Syntex page, select Configure billing (what is shown above). Any user in your organization will be able to apply an unstructured document processing or prebuilt document processing model to a SharePoint library. If you currently have Microsoft Syntex seat licenses, licensed users will be able to continue to use unstructured and prebuilt document processing per the terms of that offer. This preview is to help forecast future Syntex costs with the pay-as-you-go model. The preview expires in early 2023, at which time, if you would like to continue with pay-as-you-go, you would purchase the new Microsoft Syntex offering that will be announced at that time. Roadmap ID: 101512 Learn more + the Syntex page on adoption.microsoft.com Search Video Transcript for Stream (on SharePoint) Find what you’re looking for in a video and then jump to it – I mean jump right to that point in the video where the search term is used (spoken). This feature allows users who are viewing a video to search for keywords contained in the video transcript. Users can navigate through the search results and click on a portion of the transcript to be taken to the respective spot in the video. When viewing a video, go to the Transcript and search for keywords contained in the video and click on them to go to that point in the video. Note: This feature is for searching the transcript of a single video AND people need view or edit permissions on a file to search the transcript. Roadmap ID 99920 Learn more. SharePoint Apps: Add to teams when enabling an app The work you put into designing and building an app now has less friction to deploy them for use. A benefit to across the lifecycle of an app. As a SharePoint Administrator or Global Administrator in Microsoft 365, you can acquire solutions from the SharePoint Store or distribute custom apps that can be used across SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and Viva Connections. From within your tenant's App Center, add SharePoint Framework (SPFx) solution apps more directly to Microsoft Teams. We're improving the process of adding SharePoint Framework solution app to Teams in the modern SharePoint apps site (formerly known as App Catalog). Roadmap ID 103610 Learn more. Teamwork updates across SharePoint team sites, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams Microsoft 365 is designed to be a universal toolkit for teamwork – to give you the right tools for the right task, along with common services to help you seamlessly work across applications. SharePoint is the intelligent content service that powers teamwork – to better collaborate on proposals, projects, and campaigns throughout your organization – with integration across Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Yammer, Stream, Planner and much more. OneDrive: Sharing Experience - Sensitivity Labels inside the Sharing Dialog Sensitivity labels are used to classify and protect your organization's data. These labels are completely customizable, and admins can apply a label to a specific file based on the organization needs. We've now added sensitivity labels inside the Sharing dialog, to provide you the ability to see what labels have been applied to your files before sharing them. You can now view sensitivity labels when sharing files - on the common sharing dialog (as you see above where the "Confidential/Contoso FTE" policy is visible near the file name. If the Admin chooses to set Sensitivity labels for the organization, users who interact with the OneDrive / SharePoint share control will be able to see these labels displayed inside the sharing dialog. OneDrive sync reports in the Apps Admin Center (GA) Admins now can use the OneDrive sync health dashboard in the Microsoft 365 Apps Admin Center to get an executive summary of everything happening with OneDrive so that you can resolve common issues quickly and focus on other strategic tasks as an administrator. OneDrive sync reports can be found in the OneDrive sync health center within the Microsoft 365 App Center. Proactively keeping OneDrive healthy helps ensure that your organization's information is protected. The dashboard provides you with sync health reports for tracking relevant health issues and advisories, checking the sync status and app version of individual devices, and monitoring Known Folder Move roll out across devices throughout the organization. Microsoft To Do: Auto population of tasks due today to the My Day list This one is magical - and removes that 'blank slate' of “what am I to do today?” With this new feature, your tasks automatically appear in My Day based on their due dates. If a task is due today - it just appears auto-task-magically on your My Day view, helping you stay on top of your priorities and stay organized. To Do tasks with 'Today's' date now automatically appear on your My Day view. You can still add asks manually in My Day, and I guarantee you'll start giving more tasks specific dates knowing they'll appear at the right time - begging you to get them done. To access this new feature, simply open your Microsoft To Do app and click on My Day - and be amazed and delighted ;). To round out the Teamwork section, two key heads-up reminders: Windows 8.1 support ends on January 10th, 2023 | This means technical assistance and software updates will no longer be provided beyond this date. If your organization has devices running Windows 8.1, we recommend upgrading them to a more current, in-service, and supported Windows release (learn more). Visio Services will be discontinued starting February 10th, 2023 | This means Visio Web Access (Visio Services) and its Web Part for SharePoint in Microsoft 365 will no longer be available. Instead of Visio Web Access you will be able to use Visio for the Web to migrate your organization’s web parts to a newer experience with the new Javascript (JS) APIs for Visio Web. Visio Web enables high fidelity viewing, sharing, and collaboration in your favorite browser, without installing the client for all Office 365 licenses. It also supports embedding Visio diagrams in SharePoint using a modern file viewer part and with IFrame along with JS API programmability (learn more). January 2023 teasers Psst, still here? Still scrolling the page looking for more roadmap goodness? If so, here is a few teasers of what’s to come to production next month… Teaser #1: Microsoft Feed [Roadmap ID: 106124] Teaser #2: Microsoft Teams @Everyone [Roadmap ID: 101573] … shhh, tell @Everyone! :) Top 5 of 2022 With a look ahead, let's take a moment to look back, a look in the yearview mirror if you will… Here are the top five SharePoint and related tech updates or innovations of 2022: Runner up: Microsoft Lists - Board view #5 OneDrive sync for macOS #4 Loop components in Outlook mail #3 Review mode for Word documents #2 Two Microsoft Viva apps GA: Viva Goals and Viva Engage And #1 (drum roll, please): Microsoft Syntex. Closing out with a productivity poem... a SharePoem if you will Before we close, a final 2022 offering... a SharePoint poem - one that celebrates the reality and duality that is SharePoint: "SharePoint: Platform and app" SharePoint is a well-plumbed platform and in and of itself - an app A frontend portal AND a backend data source that never takes naps. SharePoint by name appears front and center on pages and sites… It, too, quietly powers Syntex, Viva, Stream, OneDrive, Lists, all within your Microsoft 365 services sights. It's there for IT - solutions far and wide… It's there for devs - call 'yo SharePoint' and it abides. And for end users, people, you, me, us We use it knowingly by name, or not, throughout our content collaboration trust. A platform through Graph calls and SharePoint Framework code An app for new lists and new libraries when you're in a non-coding maker's mode. Its double life led is a duality, Not dead, not dying, breathing life into reality. Ohhhh, SharePoint hums along at 99.9% uptime in the cloud Sometimes quiet in the background, sometimes boisterous, branded, and loud.
