It is related to XP since the OP included the fact of people removing vista

and installing XP

Its good news to XP users so that they will know they are using the best MS

OS, and that vista is to be avoided.

Oh, so you only refer to Open Source as "Open Sores" when you don't use

I have Win98, Me, W2K, XP, & Mandrake Linux on separate partitions. But

I'm a consultant who "deals with the public".

And what file does an OS open that a newer one won't? None. Are you

saying you're running other software that will ONLY run on Me, or W2K,

or even XP? What would that be Frank? What would POSSIBLY run on Me

that won't run on anything else?

That was a secondary point, to which I would have said that he could

consolidate his machines by using VirtualPC.

My main point, was why? He's only really need one of either 2000 or XP, and

only a very slight chance of ever needing a Win9x OS for doing whatever he

claims he needs them for.

As you know, the applications are of relevance, and not the OS.

No. Just stupid.

What is it you do then? You have some sort of printing bureau? As an

architect, I have a lot of experience in graphic design, using

Photoshop/Illustrator/Acrobat daily (also sometimes InDesign sometimes, and

Quark in the past). So I can easily suss you out.

Erm, Frank.. what exactly are you agreeing to here? It seems to me that you

are agreeing that you are a bit of a moron.

Good for you!

What's wrong with you terry? Want to do battle with me? Are you feigning

stupidity or what? We have to install legacy apps that only run properly

on older os's so that we can nativity open the files correctly and as

they were created.

You should already know that, if you are as computer savvy as you say

you are.

So grow up terry. You're beginning to sound just like a stupid ignorant

as*hole!

Hey Frank. I cannot remember there being any significant design apps that

could not run in 2000/XP (essentially the same OS), that could run okay in

Win98. All serious apps would have been designed to run on NT workstations

well before XP ever came out.

Professional apps stopped support for Win9x as soon as they could, like

Adobe CS apps and a lot of 3D and CAD programs, so it worked the other way

around.

Vista has a lot of compatibilty problems with older software, and this is

much more than it was ever before, with previous new versions of Windows.

'Suss" me out? What the hell does that mean?

You're architect? Great, so is my brother.

We are an Advertising/Marketing Agency. If you'd paid attention you'd

have seen that I've posted that many times before. We get all kinds of

files, both walk in (mailed in and in person) and thru the Internet.

We have one box dedicated to new files. It has numerous OS's, old and

new and a very wide variety of old and new graphic/word processor apps

installed.

If the file is physically received, we disco the Internet/LAN connection

and run a virus check on the file first thing. If the file is to be

dl'ed, we disco the LAN, dl it and then run the virus check.

If all is well, we then make two copies of the original and create a

physical file to contain the original, (if available) or a copy of the

original dl'ed file that we've created.

As you only mentioned Adobe software, you may not be aware that there

are lots of other, very good, graphic software in use. And some

proprietary software files are not backward compatible. Did you know that?

The worst thing a company like mind could ever say to a paying customer

is…"sorry, but we can't open your file".

Now, call us stupid if you like, but we make a lot of money by being

able to accommodate most everyone's file.

We laugh all the way to the bank!

Errr...maybe it's your reading comprehension is a bit aria...I'm

agreeing to your statement that "As you know, the applications are of

relevance, and not the OS."

But of course, not all apps will run on all OS's, right.

Therefore we only run WinX apps on WinX OS’s.

Then you know what a dep or cft or an evy or ded or an rd4 or an opd

file is. Many of these file will only open using their original app

which in some cases is the only one ever made and will only install on

older WinX's.

Hell, even the latest opd file (v15) will not open in V14. Unbelievable

that a company would do that!

So, I'm not sure where you're going with this thread or what you're

trying to prove, but we've been in biz since the early '80's and have

done quite well with how we operate.

If it bothers you, and it sure seems to, then I can't do anything about

that.

A typical worthless comment. You said I don't have to deal with the

public. Little do you know.

Like I said Frank, we live close. Care to say that to my face? If not,

move on little man. You're the one who changes what you say with every

post. Don't hide behind your keyboard. Step up or shut up.
