Today, we're excited to announce that we're making two new reports available in public preview for eligible Microsoft Endpoint Manager customers:

  • Windows feature update device readiness report - Select a target version of Windows that you plan to deploy and provides a device-by-device view of any compatibility risks that may be encountered during or after the feature update or upgrade.
  • Windows feature update compatibility risks report - Find a summary of the top compatibility risks across your organization so that you can prioritize which risks to address first.

As organizations plan to upgrade to Windows 11, we’re committed to ensuring that applications and drivers remain compatible. While Windows has extended our application compatibility promise to Windows 11, we also understand that some organizations want proactive data around compatibility risks to be confident that the specific apps and drivers used in your organization will not be an issue.

A few months ago, we announced that we're building a series of new reports in Endpoint Manager to expand access to the application and driver compatibility insights that can help you prepare for a Windows upgrade or update. Today, we’re offering a closer look at those reports, details on prerequisites, and relevant updates.

How to access app and driver compatibility insights in Endpoint Manager

The reports are available in the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center under Reports -> Windows updates. Click on the Reports tab to see these two new reports.

The insights in these reports can help you prepare for an upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, or a feature update from one version of Windows to another. Insights are available for all of your Endpoint Manager devices running supported versions of Windows, whether they are managed by Intune, a supported version of Configuration Manager with tenant attach enabled, or co-managed,.

Prerequisites

Use of these new reports requires specific Windows licensing. For more information about license requirements, see App and driver compatibility reports for Windows updates.

These new reports require that your devices are running a supported version of Windows 10 or later with the latest cumulative update. In addition, ensure that:

Note that devices currently enrolled in Desktop Analytics already meet the Windows diagnostic data and processor configuration prerequisites.

Preparing for the retirement of Desktop Analytics

As a reminder, Desktop Analytics will be retired on November 30, 2022. If you're using Desktop Analytics today, we recommend that you start leveraging the new Windows compatibility reports in the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center to assess app and driver compatibility in your organization. Like in Desktop Analytics, you're able to select a target version of Windows to gather insights specific to the OS version you plan to deploy.

Existing Desktop Analytics customers should ensure that your devices are Azure AD joined or hybrid Azure AD joined and that you have tenant attach or co-management enabled. Your existing device enrollment settings that enable Windows diagnostic data in processor configuration will continue to work for the new reports with no action required.

You will be able to continue using Desktop Analytics as it currently exists until November 30, 2022. We will share more about what to expect as the retirement date approaches, including actions you'll need to take when upgrading to Configuration Manager, version 2211, as well as some optional clean-up tasks you may wish to complete.

To learn more about the new Windows compatibility reports, see App and driver compatibility reports for Windows updates. We look forward to hearing your feedback.
