peterr Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 I thought Libre Office a good way around buying Word until I found it has trouble with mobile devices and compatibility. It really is good other than that. Is there a way to get just MS Word to install? I avoid the clouds as much as possible. so don't use Google docs. My data is in external drives. Even Google Drive is changing its name - no place for your data IMHO. So, do I have to buy Home and Student 2016 if I want to avoid this new gimmick by paying by the month. Everything is ez by the month till the end of the month and I can hear, "My word, I cannot make ends meet." I admit MS Word meets all compatibility and is nice to have but I dislike contributing to that company. So unless there is another option, is it MS Office Home and Student one time to get the real Word? Quote
FPCH Staff Tony D Posted October 12, 2018 FPCH Staff Posted October 12, 2018 What do you mean that it has trouble with mobile devices? I don't get it. You create word processing document in either L:ibre Office or MS Word. What's the difference that you're seeing? Quote
peterr Posted October 12, 2018 Author Posted October 12, 2018 Send a message to your phone using Libreoffice Writer and let me know what you see. Quote
FPCH Staff Tony D Posted October 12, 2018 FPCH Staff Posted October 12, 2018 Oh, I don't know how to send a message to a phone using any word processor. I don't know why someone would use a word processor to send a message to a phone. Do you write the message using your word processor and then copy the text and then send that text via SMS using copy? peterr Posted October 12, 2018 Author Posted October 12, 2018 With LibreOffice writer set as default just send an email to yourself on your phone from your computer and see how it looks Quote
plodr Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Why are you sending "documents" to a phone? You send text messages to a phone, not doc or docx items. I've sent texts to someone's phone when they do not have a computer. How to Send Text Messages Via Email (SMS & MMS) Send a pdf if you want to send something really long to a phone. Of course, I rarely read on the phone when I have computers and tablets. My Samsung tablet came with Word and Excel. Quote
peterr Posted October 13, 2018 Author Posted October 13, 2018 If Libreoffice is your default processor, send an email with the Libre attachment as though you were doing it with Word. I am not suggesting there are not other ways to accomplish many tasks; I was just pointing out that sending an email message with Libre Writer as an attachment is not fluid a Word. Google the issue or perform the task as though you do not have Word. Quote
plodr Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 I refuse to send an attachment to a phone - that's not the purpose of a phone! Phones are for calling or simple emails, without attachments or text. I sent an email to a friend this past week - no attachment. She replied on her phone (she doesn't own a computer) and it was a simple 2 sentence reply. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted October 13, 2018 FPCH Admin Posted October 13, 2018 I'd like to be able to help you, Peter but I have a Windows phone so all of my cell phone emails are through Hotmail and the Windows operating system. I have Word on my phone. Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
peterr Posted October 13, 2018 Author Posted October 13, 2018 There is certainly not a problem on my part and I am sorry if anyone is taking offense. My phone and pc are fine and i was just stating that Libre Office is fine with a small glitch or peculiarity. It is an objective opinion, only. I think there is a misunderstanding here. Peace to all. FPCH Staff Rustys Posted October 14, 2018 FPCH Staff Posted October 14, 2018 @peterr have you tried changing the file to a .doc and see if that helps. The default file saves to a .odt The other thing that I will suggest is have that user install the LibreOffice Viewer form the Google Play Store. 1 Quote "Confucius could give answer to that... unfortunately Confucius not here at moment."
peterr Posted October 14, 2018 Author Posted October 14, 2018 I changed it when I installed it. It is not a problem and thanks. 1 Quote
