I think the Pixel 3 comes out in Oct. and Essential-PH3 in September.

I lean towards the Pixel from Google but may need to buy before those dates. Considering frequency of updates, do you have a choice if I bought now?

If you buy now you'll still get updates so if you need a new phone buy it now unless there are features in the newer model you won't get in a current model.

That's the catch; I read about the next version of each and there will be big hardware and software difference.

I may need o buy now but with update history in mind, nothing catches my eye. Timing is everything.

The thing by the time the new phone comes out there will be another model, newer and improved, 6 months later. I used to do the same thing you're doing then I decided that whatever was available was what I'd buy.

 

In all honesty you won't notice a difference with better hardware and the whatever version of the OS that is installed you'll be able to install it on what you have now.
