eljainc Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Hello, We have a Windows Server 2008 R2 set up. I have an entire drive set up as a shared drive for users on the network. It houses an application and an associated database (ODBC) in one folder. If one or more users are using the database and another application accesses these data files, the performance suffers, even though it is only 2 or 3 users. Is there any way to optimize the way the files are shared on the server so that throughput and access speed will be maximized? We have some users that are WinXP Home clients, and some are Windows 7 clients. It doesn't matter which windows version as both exhibit the slowing of accessing the files. Quote
ICTCity Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Hi. You should provide more details like: 1) is it a RAID? If yes, which one? 2) which kind of disk do you use? Sata / eSata / USB AND 7200 RPM / 10000 / 15000 IMHO this is a normal behaviour because of the troughput of your disk. You can open the RESOURCE MONITOR and see how much (in %) is your disk busy. If you see 100% and 50 MB/s then your disk cannot do anything more, change your disk with a faster one. Let me know.
