Posted July 16, 20168 yr FPCH Admin For months Microsoft has been describing Windows 10 “as a service” and now we know why. Microsoft is going to introduce a monthly subscription fee for Windows 10 usage… That cost will be $7 per user per month but the good news is it only applies to enterprises, for now. The new pricing tier will be called “Windows 10 Enterprise E3” and it means Windows has finally joined Office 365 and Azure as a subscription service. Of course the big question is now: How does this new subscription pricing affect the millions of consumers who upgraded to Windows 10 on the promise of it being free? Windows 10 free upgrades are coming to an end. Image credit: Microsoft The good news is Microsoft has gone on record to say it is not being passed down to consumers at this stage: “This new subscription model is not associated with our current upgrade offering or applicable to the Windows 10 consumer edition,” a Microsoft spokesperson told PC World. Could Microsoft eventually introduce Windows 10 monthly subscriptions for consumers? Without doubt, but I would be highly skeptical they would apply to anyone who has already upgraded. That said there is likely to be a threshold in future where Microsoft will draw a line in the sand for the ongoing addition of new features without a fee. January 27, 20186 yr I know this was back in July but if M$ starts to charge a monthly subscription I will be off to Linux Mint for sure.I will put my Linux training in action and good bye M$. I had my suspicions that they were going to pull this even though they are just doing it for enterprise look out I believe it is on its way to all eventually.
January 27, 20186 yr Author FPCH Admin It wouldn't surprise me in the least. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
January 28, 20186 yr FPCH Staff I know one person who uses Linux only. There are a lot of Mac users out there also. There was a guy at work who sometimes added the phrase "Produced in a Microsoft-free environment" on some of his work. Bottom line: MS is pretty big but they aren't the only game in town. January 28, 20186 yr FPCH Admin I only use Macs now. I retired for good in December and that was the only place I used Windows. Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest

January 28, 20186 yr FPCH Staff Yeah, happy retirement. I was a Mac user and promoter for a long time. I got turned off to Mac these past few years. I'm mostly a Windows user at this point.
January 29, 20186 yr FPCH Staff What are the three most used versions of Linux? I use Ubuntu and Mint. Mint is easy and more Windows like. "Confucius could give answer to that... unfortunately Confucius not here at moment."
January 29, 20186 yr I agree with Rustys Ubuntu and Mint are most popular and user friendly. I use Mint on my old laptop and it works great.
January 29, 20186 yr FPCH Staff We do have a Linux section should you need help or have general questions. "Confucius could give answer to that... unfortunately Confucius not here at moment."

January 31, 20186 yr I agree with Rustys Ubuntu and Mint are most popular and user friendly. I've been running a system on Linux Mint for a few months now. Must say it doesn't take long to get to grips with it. Don't know why I didn't try it a long time ago.
