Posted June 22, 20168 yr Hi, Trust in Microsoft, certainly on my part, has diminished severely over the last year in relation to its incessant pushing of Windows 10. I am suspicious of any non-essential updates and the latest offer, which I received today is KB3161608 and is supposed to address possible issues with the updater service, does not diminish my suspicions. As ever, the description of the update from Microsoft is unclear and a little ambiguous for me as a layman. Given Microsoft's record of trying to sneak in updates relating to their push for users of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 to upgrade to Windows 10 (whether their systems will cope and whether the user wishes to upgrade or not), I have, at least for the time being, hidden this latest update. My system is not exhibiting and signs of Windows Update problems so should I leave this update hidden or does it offer possible improvements that would be of benefit for a Windows 7 system that I have no intention of upgrading. I have no serious qualms about Windows 10 itself and would be happy to have it on a newer computer, I just don't want it on this one.
June 22, 20168 yr A lot of people feel exactly the same way as you do...me included. Although I did make the jump to 10 on my new build (1 yr old now) and love it.
June 22, 20168 yr Author Hi Bassfisher, A bit of an own goal for Microsoft I think - when Windows 7 is no longer supported I may well go Linux. Sorry about the typo in the penultimate sentence in my original post. Where I have typed 'and' it should be 'any' - I was not concentrating enough - another senior moment I'm afraid.
