Posted June 17, 20168 yr FPCH Admin I was preparing to take some screenshots for tutorials today and I noticed this weird covering on some of my picture folders. It was not like this yesterday when I checked it. It doesn't seem to be affecting my photos but it looks very strange to me. Has anyone else ever run into this before? It's annoying to me and I'd like to get rid of it. I should add, I use Windows Photo Viewer for my pictures. I don't have any photo software programs and I use either SnagIt or the snipping tool to take screenshots. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~~~Robert McCloskey~~
June 17, 20168 yr I haven't experienced that, Cindy. Have a look here at "Grims" reply where he posts images like yours. Hope this helps. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/all-files-in-windows-explorer-appear-as-a-blank/4721598e-cc34-4326-9232-d54d140c2bf2?auth=1 Further down"Grim" explains how he fixed the problem. June 17, 20168 yr Author FPCH Admin Thanks, Dougie. This doesn't seem to be what is happening with mine. Only some of the folders have this and my memory usage is only at 28%. This computer has 8 gbs of ram installed. I tried as Grim suggested and it didn't change anything. It is puzzling and annoying. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~~~Robert McCloskey~~
June 17, 20168 yr This has become a "head scratcher". I have 2 picture folders and I just checked them, neither are effected.
June 17, 20168 yr Author FPCH Admin It looks the same as the link that Dougie gave but that's where the similarity ends. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~~~Robert McCloskey~~

June 17, 20168 yr FPCH Staff I'd rebuild the icon cache. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/bea47202-d869-4155-8c8f-2a5b8bd7be1d/forum-faqhow-to-rebuild-icon-cache?forum=w7itproui
June 17, 20168 yr Author FPCH Admin I'll give that a try. Thanks, Tony. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~~~Robert McCloskey~~
June 17, 20168 yr If that doesn't work, the significant difference between your problem and Grim's is that all of his thumbnails were effected. If you right click on one of the bad ones, one option should be "restore prior version". That might be worth trying too.
June 17, 20168 yr Author FPCH Admin Rebuilding the icon cache did not work. Restored one folder, Jax, to previous versions and it still has the weird paper over the folder. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~~~Robert McCloskey~~
June 17, 20168 yr Hi Cindy. What happens if you create a new Folder, name it slightly different and transfer the images from the problem Folder to the new Folder after scanning the images.? June 17, 20168 yr Author FPCH Admin I was just about to try your suggestion, Dougie and look...... I didn't do anything and I don't know how it reverted back to normal. It is one of the weirdest things that I have ever seen. Thanks everyone for trying to help! Much appreciated. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~~~Robert McCloskey~~

June 17, 20168 yr The only thing that occurred to me is that maybe the icon cache took a while to repopulate. There are a lot of icons on a computer.
June 17, 20168 yr Author FPCH Admin I would have thought so too Bill, except I checked the folders when the rebuild was complete. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~~~Robert McCloskey~~
