I was preparing to take some screenshots for tutorials today and I noticed this weird covering on some of my picture folders.

 

It was not like this yesterday when I checked it. It doesn't seem to be affecting my photos but it looks very strange to me.

 

Has anyone else ever run into this before? It's annoying to me and I'd like to get rid of it.

I should add, I use Windows Photo Viewer for my pictures.

I don't have any photo software programs and I use either SnagIt or the snipping tool to take screenshots.

This doesn't seem to be what is happening with mine.

Only some of the folders have this and my memory usage is only at 28%.

This computer has 8 gbs of ram installed.

I tried as Grim suggested and it didn't change anything.

It is puzzling and annoying.

 

This has become a "head scratcher". I have 2 picture folders and I just checked them, neither are effected.

It looks the same as the link that Dougie gave but that's where the similarity ends.

You will nail it eventually.I am still researching.:)

There are a number of possibles, just a matter of trying each one.

I'd rebuild the icon cache.

If that doesn't work, the significant difference between your problem and Grim's is that all of his thumbnails were effected. If you right click on one of the bad ones, one option should be "restore prior version". That might be worth trying too.

Rebuilding the icon cache did not work.

Restored one folder, Jax, to previous versions and it still has the weird paper over the folder.

What happens if you create a new Folder, name it slightly different and transfer the images from the problem Folder to the new Folder after scanning the images.?

I was just about to try your suggestion, Dougie and look......

I didn't do anything and I don't know how it reverted back to normal.

It is one of the weirdest things that I have ever seen.

The only thing that occurred to me is that maybe the icon cache took a while to repopulate. There are a lot of icons on a computer.

I would have thought so too Bill, except I checked the folders when the rebuild was complete.

Back to scratching my head.
