mikehende Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Friend of mine, his unit Android version 4.2.2. just working slow and video showing choppy, help please? Quote
mikehende Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Or is there a way to wipe it clean do a system recovery? Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted May 3, 2016 FPCH Admin Posted May 3, 2016 That is what I was going to suggest. You can download the user manual here. https://www.manualowl.com/p/Samsung/GT-P5113/Manual/164540 There should instructions for a factory reset in the manual. 1 Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted May 4, 2016 FPCH Admin Posted May 4, 2016 Did it help the issue of slowness? It always helps my tablet. I usually transfer anything that I want to save over to my computer before I do a factory reset. mikehende Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 Yes, everything is fast again, thanks. Just for my knowledge Cindy, how do you check for viruses on a tablet since it doesn't have a usb port and in that situation one would not be able to run an online scan? Quote
Bill M. Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Mike, Android devices have pretty good security to begin with, but I think the answer is to download an AV program just for the tablet. Quote
mikehende Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 ok but since no AV program is guaranteed protection against malware then my question still applies. Quote
Bill M. Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 There are online scans that don't require a USB port. You log in to the site and press the right button. You can google "free online scan for android tablet" for a choice. A quick look yields a dozen or so choices. Also see this post by Starbuck: http://freepchelp.forum/t/207539/ Quote
mikehende Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 Thanks, sorry I did not explain myself properly, when i said "in that situation", I was referring to when a table is too slow to allow for online scanning? Quote
Bill M. Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 In that case, Cindy's solution is probably best, move valuable data somewhere else and reset. From her post it sounded as if she has done it more than once or twice on a troubled tablet. Quote
mikehende Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 Makes sense but as you know half of the people never save their info to begin with so if infected and can't get their data out or run online scan then what? Quote
Bill M. Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 That's one way to learn that backups are necessary. Usually the data is gone. There are some very expensive data recovery labs but most folks don't want to spend that kind of money. IMO, it's one of the reason I don't like tablets or phones to be used as storage devices. They just don't offer the kind of flexibility computers do. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted May 4, 2016 FPCH Admin Posted May 4, 2016 I don't usually store anything that I don't want to lose on my tablet but because I sometimes use my tablet as an E-reader, I always make sure to transfer the books to my computer if I am going to do a factory reset. Like Bill said, there are plenty of anti-virus and security programs made for Android. Take a look here for further information on it. Android Security Other than that, Pete is probably the best one to ask when it comes to security. He's my go-to-guy. :D Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
