Hello

I have a choice of a WD internal HDD, refurbished by manufacturer for $32 or a new Toshiba for $42 .

How do you feel about factory refurbished vs. new here?

A $5 warranty gives me two years and 30 day return.

I don't care for refurbished hard drives for my customers. I think they are less reliable because you don't know what they've been thru. However, in your case, you seem comfortable replacing hard drives and you have backup images. You're probably fine with a refurbished unit.

A new drive should cost much more than a refurbished driver. I just bought a new WD 500 GB drive for $45 at Micro Center. Also picked up a 1 TB WD Black, 7200 rpm, drive with a 5 year warranty for for $55.

I, personally, would not go with a refurbished drive.

I don't trust them.

I have determined to get the new one. Unfortunately they have no Western Digitals in stock for that price.

I don't want Toshiba or Seagate which mine was.

My wife is calling from the store and I'll see what I can do.

Long story short I have a WD $39 1 T installed and have defaulted the BIOS and recovered Macrium. No noise.

I cannot thank you all enough for all your kind advice.

I waited a week to report that not only the ticking has gone since I got the new HDD but the flickering too.

Thank you for your help.
