starbuck Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 The upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update is going to bring some pretty big changes for desktop computers, including what seems to be a full dark theme that was previously available with a registry trick. Microsoft has improved the look of Windows 10’s desktop with visual effects and translucency in the Start menu and taskbar, but the company is willing to go for more with the upcoming Anniversary Update. A report coming from Thurrott reveals that Microsoft is working on bringing a full dark theme in Windows 10 that would use black as the main background color for everything, including the Settings screen. Most like, the Anniversary Update will come with a quick toggle in Settings that will allow users to choose between the light and dark themes, thus making it quite easy to change the look of the desktop. It will be included in the personalization screen alongside other features such as accent color. Windows 10 Mobile already has such a feature, so it just makes sense for the PC version of the operating system to get it. Furthermore, there are quite a lot of users out there who turned to a registry trick to enable the dark theme, so why not offer them a feature to activate it easily from Settings? One of the most-requested features A dark theme in Windows 10 is currently one of the most requested features, so it’s very clear that Microsoft heard the message that was posted pretty much everywhere, including the Feedback app. There are thousands of votes in the Windows 10 Feedback app serving as living proof that a dark theme would be a welcome addition to the operating system, so the Anniversary Update will clearly be an important step forward. Most likely, the dark theme will initially debut for Windows insiders and then for everyone else with the public release of the Anniversary Update in the summer. DSTM Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 All my Desktops have black background. Easier for my eyes I find. Will be interesting what it looks like..:) Quote Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm Schizophrenic, and so am I Free Photo Restoration and Repair for all Forum members - CLICK HERE Please pop back and let us know if your Computer problem has been solved.

I can deal with a dark theme for a short amount of time. Too long and the eyes tell me to switch to lighter styles. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
DSTM Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I can handle white text on black. When colored fonts are used, then my eyes give me hell. Looks like a lot want a black theme. Bet they are young with excellent eyesight. Digerati Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 If anyone is interested in trying out the dark theme (it has always been there via a Registry tweak), you can easily access it through Winaero Tweaker - which just came out with a new update today. 2 Quote Bill (AFE7Ret) Freedom is NOT Free! I would like to see a grey background theme as one more option. I do like the black background on Edge though it already has that option in Windows 10. Quote
starbuck Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 I've just tried out the new dark theme available in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14316. So far it's looking good..... but we'll see how long it lasts. :) Quote
IceMan37 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Yeah for sure. MS "said" full aero (like it was in windows 7) would be in RTM I saw it in various builds but for some reason, they chose to leave it out. I can't be the performance hit because even during the Windows 7 hayday because modern rigs, especially with powerful quad cores, and nice GPU's so little performance hit anyway. I believe the dark theme will make it but I really wish Aero would make it's way back. Quote
starbuck Posted April 15, 2016 Author Posted April 15, 2016 The dark theme isn't intrusive at all. Not all windows menus show the dark theme. To be honest all the hoo-ha is about nothing. Quote
IceMan37 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 That is true. I use to be big time into UI stuff something never mentioned. I had some very nice 3D walls I did in Brice 3D a few of which were on the top downloaded list when Webshots was legitimate. I also did some desktop themes (for the UX.theme DLL hack) and was getting into the Aero scene when I stopped doing that type stuff. Regarding the dark theme in Windows 10 I believe by the time they finish the dark theme, or rather "finalize" it that it will be more complete -- at least I would like to think so but I have my doubts because of the recent direction of Microsoft. A true full dark all encompassing theme would be nice along with the ability to change the background text colors and menu text color. I do not think that will happen though. Quote
