WinPatrol should be in startup to be most effective.

I don't believe GWX Control Monitor needs to be in startup.

Hey guys and gals may I present a bit different opinion. I use winpatrol not in startup, and on my W7 machine GWX control panel in startup. The reason is because WP is needed only sometimes for the experienced user, not as a running process itself. GWX Panel on the other hand is better in startup because from the 1st time W7 senses your "boot", or a reboot, it's looking to install W10 from the get-go into your KB, or in any way it can. This is the way I run these two apps/programs.

I'd have to agree with this.

You wouldn't need Winpatrol all the time, so no need to run it at startup.

GWX control panel, on the other hand can only keep monitoring your system if it's run at startup.

The program alerts you if your Windows Update settings change from one of the safer "download only" or "check only" options to "automatically install" behind your back and gives you the chance to fix it with the Change Windows Update Settings feature.
