A friend of mine in another state here wants to put Windows 7 on an old Dell Vostro 1000.

There are no drivers listed for Windows7.

Anyone know whether Vista drivers may work with a Windows7 install?

Dougie, I think I have heard of instances where Vista drivers have been substituted in some situations. I think it would be worth a try. What's the worse that could happen? Assuming of course he has the XP re-install capability.

Bill is correct. Most of the Vista drivers should work.

The ones that don't can be gotten from the manufacturer web site.

I wasn't sure 100% about the Vista drivers.

If he finds that some of the Vista drivers do not work, we can help him find compatible Win 7 drivers through the vendor and hardware ID.

This Guy managed to install Windows7 on this old laptop and the Vista drivers worked.

The story behind this Laptop is his Daughter has a Mac and can't install Office Publisher on it.

She needs Publisher for templates for her home business so she gave him a new copy of

Office to install on this old Laptop for her.

I have invited this guy to join Free PC Help Forum which he will and we can help him with any further issues

with his other Computers and Wife's Laptop as well.

W7 was Vista done correctly so it's not surprising that it worked out with Vista drivers. Happy to hear it worked!
