That is good news! We had snow last week and today it is 54 degrees.

This is the weirdest winter we have ever had.

Dougie.....Have you ever considered constructing a green house? You could have fresh vegetables. Build it next to the garage that i will be moving into when i go to australia.

Wow! I am going to stop complaining about our summer heat here.

Dougie, 107F? That's terrible, but unforgivable if humidity is high.

I'd never move to most U.S. southern states with high humidity.

When my Georgia son visits me here in Pennsylvania in the

summer, he relishes sitting outside on the patio. Georgia is a

nice place to briefly visit, but they spend too much time in the

air-conditioned indoors.

Its incredibly dry humidity makes Arizona's incredibly high

temperature bearable. No need for clothes dryers there. Indoors

or outdoors. clothes dry quickly by themselves. Many years ago

I toyed with moving to Arizona, but I would not have been able to

cope with having relatives so far away.

Very true. It's the humidity factor which makes high temps unbearable. We do have high temps in summer

but now and again we get extreme temps. Another state has had the highest temps for 4 days since 1940.

Last time the temp was so high was on the 21st February 2004 when the temp reached 45c or 113 F.

Birds were dropping dead out of the trees.

Our normal summer temps are the mid to high 30's. February is normally our hottest month.

Today is lovely, only 27c. Such a relief from the heat.

It's not any fun at all when it's that cold. I have to say though, that I am so use to the extreme cold now that when it's 20f I feel great. Just a light jacket will do. It's amazing how you become acclimatized to a specific region and the weather, but yeah -35f is truly awful.

It gets cold here where I live too. Had the power go off a couple years ago when we had -25 actual temp with wind chill of -40. Had to turn on all the faucets to make sure pipes didn't freeze and burned candles in one room for heat and we all stayed in that room. Temp in house just before the power came back on was 34.

FWIW, after a similar experience, I bought an Aladdin Oil Lamp. These things generate a lot of heat and for a reasonable size room can be very effective raising the inside temps. A bit on the expensive side but in the absence of power, well worth the investment. Try Amazon.

The Aladdin Lamp sounds like an interesting idea, Bill.

I will definitely check it out.

We have been lucky so far this year but the past two winters we didn't fare as well.

Cindy, when you look at them, there are several varieties and styles, primarily the height of the chimneys. I bought the least expensive with about a 15" chimney, they all work about the same.

I was just looking at them on Amazon. They are a little pricey, aren't they?

Here we are now into Auturm (Fall) from the 1st of March and we are still getting continual 35c days.

Do wish the days cool off soon.

Our highest temp this Summer just gone was 42.2c on Feb 25.
