Posted February 14, 20168 yr TV's are essentially computer hardware these days. I am currently experiencing an issue with one of my Vizio smart TV's. Every time I press the menu button, the whole thing locks up and the TV is rendered useless. The remote is not responsive and even the power button (on the tv itself) the tv wont turn it off. I've called Vizio and they created a "case number" for my problem and I am suppose to call them back so they can walk me through some troubleshooting steps. The reason I created this thread is because I wanted to see if anyone else out there had a problem with their smart tv's freezing up out of the blue? How did you solve that problem? :) Off Topix - General Discussion Community
February 14, 20168 yr FPCH Staff I have a friend who fixes TV's. I'm in his shop quite often. I'll ask him about it.
February 14, 20168 yr FPCH Staff When you press the Menu button, are you talking about the one on the remote control or the one on the set? When the set becomes unresponsive, I assume none of the buttons on the set work. Is this correct? How do you recover? Do you pull the AC cord out of the wall or what?
February 15, 20168 yr FPCH Staff I checked with my TV repair friend. He hasn't seen your issue. He does however, suspect it's a problem with the main board.

Correct, I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get the TV responding again but it doesn't work for long. I checked with my TV repair friend. He hasn't seen your issue. He does however, suspect it's a problem with the main board. I hope not, VIZIO has a 1 year warranty and I bought this TV in September. :) Off Topix - General Discussion Community
February 18, 20168 yr FPCH Staff Time to call Visio and let them walk you thru that troubleshooting procedure.
February 18, 20168 yr Joe, if you paid for this tv with a credit card, check to see if your credit-card company extends warranties for a year -- in case September rolls around and you are still having problems with the tv.
