DSTM Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 I built another PC today and decided to clone the OS from the SSD to a 750 GIG spinner HD Installed Macrium and absolutely would not clone. Gave me a 0X8004231F error every time. I eventually unticked the 100MB reserved partition check mark and clone worked perfect. Then rebooted F11 selected to boot off cloned copy and booted straight up fine. Although the System reserved partition was unchecked it cloned straight across. Strange or what? Maybe this could help someone with like issues. FPCH Staff Tony D Posted February 11, 2016 FPCH Staff Posted February 11, 2016 Marcum's knownledge base notes that you may have a problem if the MSR partition is assigned a drive letter. Did Macrium Reflect backup that MSR partition, even thought it wasn't checked? http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/VSS+Error%3A+0x8004231f+-+Failed+to+Create+Volume+Snapshot+1 Quote
DSTM Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 Yes Tony, I double checked that all partitions had drive letters. I didn't force a drive letter, just let Windows assign one. Yes Macrium Reflect did back up the MSR although unchecked otherwise I would have got a boot error. Looked at the clone and the system reserved partition is showing. A long time ago I got caught when a partition was missing a drive letter. Disk management then would recognize the drive, Acronis Disk Director also recognized the drive but when you clicked Start > Computer the drive wasn't showing. Took me a while to realize the drive had no drive letter. Thanks for your input, appreciated.:) Quote Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm Schizophrenic, and so am I Free Photo Restoration and Repair for all Forum members - CLICK HERE Please pop back and let us know if your Computer problem has been solved.
FPCH Staff Tony D Posted February 11, 2016 FPCH Staff Posted February 11, 2016 That was probably your problem. The knowledge base said to remove the drive letter. Quote
DSTM Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 Never had the drive letter issue in previous versions and I have cloned countless times. Must be something new in this version. Should have read the knowledge base I admit.
