I was getting annoyed with Windows 10. There are certain things that changed that seemed to be a step backwards. Doing little things was harder than it was in any previous version. The revamped control panel is the worst. Just trying to find one setting takes forever. I found I had to use the search feature to find the things I used to be able to go right too. Since I'm speaking about search, since Microsoft decided to move so many things, it leaves a lot to be desired. I'd search for something and either get the wrong results or no results at all.

 

Start menu, while I liked it at first, is a mess. Since it takes forever to find the app you want to use I would pin it to the start menu. My start menu was an eyesore.

 

I could go on for hours with the things I have grown to dislike in Windows 10, but, this is about OSX.

 

I found that I was using my old G5 Mac Pro more and more for my everyday tasks. There were times when I wouldn't even switch over to my Windows box. My G5 is a 10 year old PPC box and not compatible with newer versions of OSX and some of the newer software I needed didn't work on it. My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said a new Mac Pro. It arrived early she gave it to me. I set it up on the KVM and used the migration software to move my stuff from the old G5. Once that was done I used the migration assistant to move my files off my Windows 10 box. I've never went from Mac to Windows so I don't know if you can even do that with Windows and if you could I don't know how well it would work. The software worked exceptionally well for me.

 

It took me a few weeks to get the box set up with everything I need. I had to find a Mac equivalent for all my software. It's now complete and I am using OSX all the time now. Yesterday I imported my Windows 10 install into Parallels so I could get ready to sell the box. The importer imported everything and all my Windows programs will be available to me should I need them.

 

In my old Windows box I had a #rd gen I7 CPU and 32Gigs of memory. At times, especially when I was compiling code, the thing would bog down and take forever. In fact after I told my wife which Mac Pro to order I seconded guessed myself on the specs. I only ordered it with 12Gigs although I went with the 12 core Xeon 3.2 CPU. To my surprise the first time I ran the C compiler it whizzed right through and I was able to do other things while it was doing it's thing. I have to say I was surprised by that. In the future, since I like to tinker, I'll add some more memory.

 

Not to say I won't go back to Windows in the future. If they release an OS as elegant and resource friendly as OSX is I will switch back. I still like Windows. All my servers are Windows. I just had to do what I thought was best for me.

You are braver than I am. I have been considering a Mac Book Pro recently but am still undecided.

I am keeping Windows 10 on one machine just for the sake of knowing the OS but I honestly, rarely use it.

Since I switched my wife has also. She is 1 week into it. She had big problems with Windows 8 and 10 loading the software she needs for school. I told her to give OSX a chance to see if it was any better. She used my box a couple days and said it's time to switch. Went and bought her an iMac and since she works away from home got her a Macbook too. She is happy. Everything she had problems with now just works.

That is the default background in Yosemite, the version of OSX I have installed. I haven't installed El Capitan yet because Intellipoint doesn't work with it and Microsoft probably isn't going to update it any time soon. I have a new Logitech MX Master on the way and once I change to it I'll install El Capitan.

 

One other note. I have a late 2009 model Mac Mini that came with Snow Leopard. I am upgrading to El Capitan now so I can sell it. If this was a Windows box running XP, which was what would have came pre-installed in 2009, I would have to pay for the latest version.
