Hello

I often fail SFC. I used to fix it with the DISM health command but lately I cannot. There has been a big discussion in either a Win 7 or 10 forum about a new way. You click on a zip file with the word HEALTH in it. The rest was over my head. I cannot remember the forum but if anyone knows how to do this and can slowly explain it, it would save me tons of time having to either recover an image or reset.

I get corruption too much and don't know why. My wife's PC is almost identical to mine but she is OK with SFC.

I was so wrapped up i forgot to get the details but one had to do with failing to get the "source." I had not removed the win.old yet and have an re installation disc. I tried the method they were all applauding but failed. They are more experienced than I am and a friend asked if they could make it easier. However, I forgot where is was. Often times it takes two or three SFC /scannow commands to fix the corruption.

I have done so to no avail.

It is too bad I cannot be more specific about the forum that had a new solution to this problem when SFC and any DISM commands fail. I think it is a Win 7 forum although I am running Win 10 it is still applicable.

Let me try this and see if I can break it down into a simpler form for you.

I looked it the link and it Does not look like the one I was referring to.

Let me look around for the locastion of that process and I will gladly learn any way to fix this issue.

I tried everything I could to get it to you. One file was too big and the other just shows Chrome. I right clicked and only had so many options.

 

The forum is WindowsEight and this process was referred to me by a friend who is better with pcs.

 

I uploaded a couple of files so it would not over load and hope this helps identify this new process

 

If this does not work, how can I get that page to you?.

This post is to ask admin if you received the material sufficient to present the new way of correcting corrupted files.

 

Incidental to that is to ask if the extensions .wim and .erd make any difference as far as this new technique is concerned?

I'm not sure exactly what it is what you are asking, Peter. I am unable to view the files you have at Dropbox without running the command myself.

 

In order to complete this you need to have Windows Setup Media.

 

These are the instructions and there seems to be several different ways to achieve the attempt at correcting the corrupted files.

As for .wim files, they are windows imaging files and I'm not sure about the .erd files.

 

Here is a program to help users with corrupt windows files..

This program will run System File Checker and DISM commands to repair an online Windows image

and will look for the setup media to use as a repair source

 

Step 1: Download and Extract > IMAGE_HEALTH.ZIP to a root drive (ie C:\Image_Health )

Step 2: Right-Click IMAGE_HEALTH.CMD > Select Properties > Select Unblock

Step 3: Insert your Windows Setup Media ( Mounted ISO or DVD or USB )

Step 4: Right Click on IMAGE_HEALTH.CMD and Run as Administrator

 

The preferred method of use would be to select

 

Option 1 ScanHealth > if shows as repairable,

then

Option 2 RestoreHealth > if shows as needing source file,

then

Option 3 RestoreHealth /source

 

Note: Dism uses the component store as it's main source for Image Repair, and windows updates are placed in the component store, so best to try to use current component store for RestoreHealth,

before selecting Option 3 and redirecting the repair source, to the windows setup media..

 

Option 4 > will analyze the component store, it will tell you if the store can be cleaned up -

Option 5 > will cleanup (Remove) superseded windows files over 45 days old in the component store

Option 6 > will cleanup (Remove) ALL superseded windows files in the component store

Option 7 > will run Revert Pending Dism Actions (UnLock, The Locked Disk Message)

Option 8 > will export 3rd Party System Drivers into a "Drivers" folder

Option 9 > will run System File Checker SFC /Scannow

 

Note: SFC has been known to flag perfectly good files as corrupt, although this does not harm anything other, then the user now thinking the system is corrupt, and resulting in false positive confusion about the corruption

 

Option 10 > will run Disk Cleanup Manager in Extended Mode

Option 11 > will run ShowKeyPlus to retrieve windows product key

 

Note: There are log files to help you and others troubleshoot dism issues,

 

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

 

It is advised to delete those .log files first, then run the program and post the .log(s) as .txt files in forum..

Yes, you do have the process that I was referring to. Have you used this before?

 

I seem to have trouble following the steps but from now on will alternate between a browser and a Word doc.

i will use Word to follow instructions and the browser to perform the task. I guess some procedures cannot be watered down too much for low level users. Although I did see where a member asked for the simplification.

I'll work it out when the next corruption occurs.

No, I'm sorry but I have never used the DISM command before in Windows 10.

It looks to me as if the instructions are a little bit more complicated than they need to be. (IMHO)

 

I have used the sfc /scannow command frequently and as I previously stated, sometimes it needs to be run two or three times in a row to completely replace or repair the corrupted files. I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help to you with this.

Exactly what problems are you having?

What is that you are trying to fix?

SFC is something that only needs to be run on rare occasions ..... it shouldn't be necessary to run it regularly.

If you need to run it regularly, then it means there's a serious issue somewhere.

Hello

I was just reading some forums and came across one that discussed new way to fix corrupted files.when neither SFC not DISM can not fix it.

I run SFC only very occasionally when I feel a program is not running right or some other symptom occurs. I used to be able to fix any corrupted files with SFC or DISM(health) but lately I cannot. That is why the article interested me.

I am all set now that I have made some modifications.
