peterr Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Hello Since the latest build for Win 10 I Iost these two programs. Has anyone found programs that do the same job ? TY Peter Quote
starbuck Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Hi peter, I haven't lost any programs, but I did install Speccy yesterday to check some temps and it caused all sorts of freezing problems with the latest build of Win10. After I uninstalled speccy, everything went back to normal. Quote
peterr Posted November 15, 2015 Author Posted November 15, 2015 I just got a note from someone who said Speccy is working fine with this new build of 10. Now I am confused so will have to wait to see as I don't want trouble. Quote
starbuck Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 No two systems will react the same when a program is installed. It also depends on what other programs are installed. It may well be that speccy conflicted with something else on my system.... or the way my system is set up. Best thing is to give it a try yourself.... it could be that it'll work fine for you. I have no problem running speccy on Win7 or Win8.1. Quote
peterr Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 I lucked out as both Unlocker and Speccy which wee removed with the update installed fine. Quote
starbuck Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Hi Peter Just a quick thought....? When you talk about the latest build, do you mean the latest "insider build" or the latest build delivered to Win10 systems this last week? I was talking about the latest insider build. Quote
peterr Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 ver. 1511 OS build 10586.3 I tried the insider build at first then due to my lack of expertise, and some developmental glitches, decide to opt out. I then installed Win 10 from the ISO file after upgrading so MS would recognize the mobo and did a clean install. The last update was installed about 5 days ago and this is when I lost the 2 programs. I have successfully installed them and they are working as they should. Do you use Unlocker, Speccy or TreeSize and if so, were you affected? I have a friend who just lost one but forgot which it was. i guess it depends upon your configuration. Quote
starbuck Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Do you use Unlocker, Speccy or TreeSize and if so, were you affected? I have Speccy installed on my Win 7 and Win8.1 systems, but this was the first time I'd tried it on my Win10 insider system. That was when I had problems. Maybe it was the latest insider version that didn't like Speccy.... I don't really know. Will try it again soon and see if the problem re-occurs. Have never used Unlocker or Treesize.... have never seen the need for those. Quote
peterr Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 I'm glad you are all set. I really like Win 10 but then 8.1 was a real good OS. I have no special need for a start program as in 10 - 8.1 did the job well. I needed Unlocker once and i use TreeSize to rid my external drives of trash. I too wish I had no need for those programs but something always seems to come up. TY Quote
peterr Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 Unlocker came in handy this am as clean up of system files did not remove Win.old. Quote
starbuck Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Think you may find this interesting: Microsoft may have gotten too aggressive with the speed and stability fixes in Windows 10’s November update, which is reportedly wiping some programs from users’ PCs. As noted by VentureBeat, complaints about the update have started popping up in numerous threads on Reddit. The latest complaint, posted on Monday, claims that the update had removed CPU-Z and AMD Catalyst Control Center from the user’s system. Previous complaints have mentioned CCleaner, Intel WiDi Remote, Speccy, and Cisco VPN. As for the removal of certain programs, one Reddit user speculates that it might be an intentional move on Microsoft’s part, aimed at eradicating faulty drivers and other system issues that might cause the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. Besides, users can always just re-install any programs they lost. But that rationale is of little consolation to users who feel like they’ve lost control over the operating system. As one Reddit commenter said, “I would have preferred it if they gave me the notice followed by a ‘Click here to learn more’. Instead of taking it away and feeling like I was being treated like a controlled child.” Windows 10 November update apparently deleting some third-party programs Quote
peterr Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 That leads one to wonder if there is something else missing that is fundamental to the OS and will pop up sooner or later. But then again that is what images are for, Quote
Plastic Nev Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 I am beginning to wonder if some updates to Windows 7 may be doing the same, elsewhere on a different forum a user reports that an update turned off his WIFI and cannot get it back. Quote
peterr Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 Speccy is really not for Win 10 so maybe that is the problem for 10 users. When I upgraded from 7, I lost Bluetooth but the advisor said I would. I guess it is best top buy new if you can instead of upgrading. I like 10 and would not go back to 7 but do miss BT. Maybe I'll get a dongle. Do you think that would work? Quote
