Mommalina Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Have you had any experiences you can share ordering online groceries? I would like to begin buying groceries on line; however, the sites I have explored don't seem to meet my needs: fresh/frozen produce, meat, fish, eggs, dairy products. I don't like prepared packaged or frozen products -- too much salt, sugar, and preservatives. I checked out Amazon and some local supermarket sites. They don't offer enough of what I like and need. It would be impossible to find enough items to meet their minimum-order requirements, make the delivery fee worthwhile, and save me trips to the supermarket. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted September 18, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted September 18, 2015 I have never investigated this, Lina. With my back and my knees in such bad condition, my husband, (thankfully) has taken over the grocery shopping for me. I know that Dougie and Evie get their groceries delivered but they are in Australia. My husband shops at BJ's or Sam's once a month and uses Shop-Rite or Walmart for fresh meat, dairy and produce weekly. FPCH Admin AWS Posted September 18, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted September 18, 2015 I have seen this. My brother used an online service to deliver his groceries after his stroke. They delivered once a week or more often as needed. I'll see if my niece knows the website. I think she is the one that set it up for him. 1 Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
Plastic Nev Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 I don't know if this is any help, however in the UK there are supermarkets that both deliver and do have a large range of fresh products. A friend who is also slightly disabled uses Asda, (Owned now by Walmart) They have their own website and you just order for delivery through the website. Nev. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted September 19, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted September 19, 2015 I had no idea that you had Walmart stores in the UK, Nev. Plastic Nev Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 They aren't actually called Walmart though Cindy, Asda is an original and well established supermarket company that were bought out by Walmart and continue to trade as Asda. Not too surprisingly, not many folk over here actually know that though. As far as I know there isn't as yet any stores with the Walmart name here in the UK. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted September 20, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted September 20, 2015 I didn't realize that. It's funny, it seems as if Walmart has their fingers everywhere. Plastic Nev Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 In fact the three main supermarket groups in the UK which are Asda, Tesco, and Morrisons although to some extent are in competition with each other are more or less on a common ground as far as pricing of goods they sell. However all three are now finding some strong competition from two smaller groups, mainly Aldi, and the other is Liddle. Those two buy in a lot of foreign goods at remarkably much lower prices, and also manage to underprice on other goods. The result is the big three are reporting losses, especially Tesco, who recently got caught out for reporting false profit figures and were quite severely punished for it. Quote
Mommalina Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 I wish there were an Aldi close by (walking distance) here in suburban Philadelphia. The price and quality of their products compete with those of most of our supermarkets. The dollar stores compete, but too much of their "edible" products come from China. Or, you can only find the distributor (not the country of origin) on the labels. Come to think of it, the same holds true with many products in regular supermarkets. Don't know how the FDA or other govt entity can ensure the safety of so many imports! Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted September 20, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted September 20, 2015 We have two Aldi's in our area and a third, larger one, is supposed to open at the end of next month. I agree that their prices are very competitive.
