mikehende Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Hey guys, I am working on an hp touchsmart m6 k125 dx laptop system ID 190E Product ID EOK48UA#ABA I tried researching the above info online but nothing, I have various win8 versions but how do I know which one is on here or how would be best to proceed please? I need to replace the HDD. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted July 27, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted July 27, 2015 In the run box, type winver. This command will bring up a window with your version in it. See screenshot below. If it just says Windows 8 or 8.1 then you have Windows 8 Basic. mikehende Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Oh yes, sorry for not having explained this situation properly. When the owner brought this to me last night, on power on, it showed "Hard Disk error", I tried to run the unit's HDD Diagnostics but it showed "No Hdd installed", I then replced the HDD with one of my own and it shows "No boot device" so that suggests to me that the HDD is dead so anything I would need to do to get the version has to be done outside of windows. mikehende Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 geez I don't know why they make things so complicated, I have 3 sets of disks: win8 standard, win8 Pro and win8.1 pro and this is the 2nd time I have come across this issue, the version on this unit is "8.1 Standard", the one I don't have so I will have no choice but to order the recovery disk from HP? FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted July 27, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted July 27, 2015 I just ran into the same type of problem a few weeks ago. I had a computer here with Windows 8.1 Pro and at the time I only had a Windows 8 Pro disk. I had to order an 8.1 Pro disk. Plastic Nev Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 This makes me ask a question. With Windows 7, if for example you had bought, as I did, a machine with Windows 7 home, to upgrade to pro you were only given a bit of card with a new product key, as all versions were there under the hood so to speak, you just required the product key to activate whichever you bought as the upgrade. I assume now that this does not apply in Windows 8 or 8.1? Therefore you cannot install just any version and then reactivate with the current product key, providing of course that it is known? A puzzled Nev. Quote
mikehende Posted July 28, 2015 Author Posted July 28, 2015 In my little experience, product keys are version specific if that is the question you are asking. Quote
