Which edition of Windows 10 will you get for free?

Ordinarily, I would agree except I have used the How To Geek site frequently and have found it to be reliable and trustworthy.

Hey guys, is it possible to install the win10 software on a new HDD on a win7 machine or would I need to first reinstall the machine's win7 then upgrade to win10 with these win10 OS's I have created boot disks with?

You need to have Windows 7 OS first, on the HDD first in order to activate Windows 10, Mike.

Ok, to clarify that only for the "free" upgrades so if you should purchase win10 then you can install that without win7?

Well I am now seeing a notice when I open the win10 icon stating "Unfortunately this pc is unable to run windows 10" and the compatibility issue shows Nvidia GeForce...The display manufacturer hasn't made your display compatible with windows 10. Check with the Manufacturer for support. Any ideas what to do here please? This suggests to me that not every win7 machine will be able to run win10?

 

Also, if someone wants you to upgrade to win10 and since no one will know how long it will take for the upgrade to show on their pc, how do you go about this, do you tell them to click the icon and reserve win10 and whenever they get the notification that it's ready then they bring their machine to you?

You need the newest Nvidia driver if there is one. There may not be, a lot of people have had this problem.

I have already been down that road looking for new drivers, Nvidia are saying the graphics system is now out of date and refusing to make new Windows 10 drivers available for it. I haven't bothered with it though as having seen what Windows 10 is actually like, I don't want it on this Windows 7 system any way.

Thanks for that report Nev, strange this was going to be my next question, how does win10 stack up to win7, meaning which do you guys prefer?

Once I got used to Windows 10, I like it better but I do not use it for banking or online shopping because of the privacy issues.

Considering I can't install Windows 10 any way due to that graphics issue, I can't really comment other than to say that what I have learned from the various things published, mainly about privacy, as well as a few other things, I am sort of glad I haven't got it installed.

I don't expect that I will like anything better than win7 but you never know, I will at least give it a shot soon.
