Before I upgrade to the Malwarebytes new version, I'd like to

check to see if anyone has had a problem with it. I am still

using XP, so I'd sincerely appreciate feedback on this upgrade.

It's likely that I'm paranoid. I'm no computer expert; I try to

avoid potential problems (especially since I have XP).

I just did the upgrade myself a couple of hours ago but so far so good.

It's version Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.1.4.1018.

Thanks, Cindy! ♥

I would never think of not using MBAM. Sometimes when an update was

problematic, they fixed it before I downloaded it; e.g., Windows updates.

The only option you will have is the trial (to buy) however don't worry

Malwarebytes will revert to the free version after the trial period.

A slight clarification here....

Yes the downloads are the same, but if you only want the 'Free' version it's still possible to select this at the end of the install.

From my canned speech......

  • A 14 day trial of the Premium features is pre-selected. You may deselect this if you wish, and it will not diminish the scanning and removal capabilities of the program
I recommend that you UNtick this option if you only want the 'Free' version.
  • Click Finish

New pro MBAM version will not install.

:help::help:

Using XP Pro, MBAM, Nod32, Admuncher, Windows Firewall,

Firefox.

- Received Firefox alert, upgraded to Version 36.0.4.

- Clicked on alert to install new MBAM version.

- Disabled Nod32, Admuncher, and Windows Firewall.

- MBAM indicated it can't install because of protection block (or something

like that).

- Restarted Computer.

- Tried again after again disabling Nod 32, Admuncher, and Windows

Firewall. Still can't install.

- Received alert suggesting a Firefox Refresh to solve any problems. Did

the Firefox Refresh which took it to the default version; made no changes.

- Tried again to install new MBAM Pro version, disabling Nod 32, Admuncher,

and Windows Firewall. Still will not install.

I need step-by-step instructions, please, to try to upgrade MBAM

pro in Safe Mode,as recommended by DSTM and confirmed by

AWS. (Thanks!)

By the way, upon cold start this morning, I tried again to upgrade

MBAM pro. I disabled Nod32, AdMuncher, and Windows Firewall.

Same unsuccessful result and notice that "self protection must be

disabled."

Among the options in the Windows Security Center, I noticed

Internet Options. I went to Security; it is set to medium-high.

May I assume no change is necessary here in order to disable all

self-protection?

Thanks for your prompt responses; I look forward to Safe-Mode

instructions. I want to avoid screwing up my computer -- at least

until I figure out and print the proper forms 2014 U.S. Federal and

PA State Income Taxes.

BTW, I'm going to Google for a MBAM blog and/or mention of

similar upgrade problems and see if I can commiserate with

other still-computer-challenged dummies.

Hi Mommalina.

OMG it's that long since I have used XP. I would first copy your MBAM.exe File to your desktop for easy access. I would uninstall your current version of Malwarebytes.

Your security I would set from medium high to zero only during this install.

Continually tap F8 on boot to get into safe mode. You may need a number of tries as the is only a short time to nail.

When given the options select "Safe Mode with Networking" and press enter.

It will take time to enter safe mode so don't panic.

Once in safe mode select "update Malwarebytes"

When finished just restart your computer and raise the security level back to previous setting.

See how you go.

PS. There is no risk running your XP in safe mode.

EDIT Altered instructions

Dougie, thanks for your instructions. ♥

Before I print them and begin, let me ask you:

What if I:

- completely uninstall MBAM pro,

- go to the MBAM website,

- install their latest pro version?

I have the license number. It would be like installing

paid software after a wipe-and-load or transferring

software to a new computer. I've had occasion to

do both.

If I am then still blocked after disabling Nod32, Window

Firewall, and Admuncher, I can always attempt to install

it in safe mode.

What do you think?

Yes, Lina. Try to do it your way first.

The instructions for safe mode aren't quite right.

They need a little adjustment.

I've always uninstalled any old version of MBAM before installing the new version.

There has been problems in the past when attempting an update.

What if I:

- completely uninstall MBAM pro,

- go to the MBAM website,

- install their latest pro version?

Sounds a good idea.

You have to make sure all of MBAM is removed before the new version is installed. (Run their removal tool )

This is the way that Malwarebytes recommends.

  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
  • Restart your computer (very important).
  • Download and run mbam clean
  • It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).
  • After the computer restarts, install the latest version from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I can't find my MBAM Pro Key.

Upon opening MBAM Pro, under License Details, it

states:

Identifier - (combination of 6 different numbers and letters)

Key - *****

On reinstall, will MBAM ask me for the Key number? It will not

allow a cut-and-paste.

Cindy, and Starbucks thanks for your input. ♥

I apologize for the delay in replying. This old grey mare ain't

what she used to be, and even I don't want to hear why!

This morning I searched for but can't find purchase/ license

information for MBAM Pro! -- even though I always make sure

to record it in My Documents, with copies in Outlook Express,

and even one of my Yahoo accounts.

:ouch:

BTW, Dougie, MBAM tried to block the download,

so I decided not to try it yet.

Apparently the old MBAM version is still providing

some protection.

Edit: Just saw you post. Will try it. Thanks.

I found it! Filed in wrong folder :ouch:

Neither of Dougie and Cindy's web sites worked. They did

not like any of the email addresses I offered.

Will try again tomorrow. Enough brain freezes today already.

Don't rule out "Magic Jelly Beans" if you are looking for

a license; it may work for you!

Correction: I did not go all the way with Dougie's "Magic Jelly

Beans" when I noticed the site Cindy had just posted. It was

"Cleaverbridge" not "Magic Jelly Beans" that asked for a

purchase email address and refused those I gave.

Thanks, Dougie. I'll keep a note of your web site and hope

I never need to use either web site in the future. ;)
