Within the past 4 months my isp has been very slow. To counter any possible malware, i recently restored my computer to the factory default. The problems i still have are as follows;

1. Sometimes when i click a url i will get a message stating "Redirecting you to.........(whatever the name of the site). While waiting to be "Redirected" i will get another message "server not found". The above is intermittent. Sometimes everything is working ok but I get many "server not found" messages.

2. It takes a long time, (10 seconds or more) for a url to appear after i click it.

3. My present ISP speeds are; Ping: 94ms......Download Speed: 1.93 Mpbs........ Upload Speed: 0.80 Mpbs.

I am using a modem & not using using any wireless devices. I have a cable connection provided by "Hotwire Communications".

Hi Restoring back to factory should have taken care of any malware IMHO. What is your OS?? Are you saying that you are connected to your ISP with a USB cable and are not using wireless?? I don't see any problem with your down load speeds. It really sounds like malware to me. A restore to factory should have taken care of malware IMHO. I'm wondering about your HD. Have you tried a chkdsk. If you restored back to factory and still have the same problem, a hardware problem is my guess. I'm sure you will get better advise from those much smarter than myself here on Free PC Help Forum!
Some times you're the wind shield. Some times you're the bug!!:(

Sorry Dougie! Didn't know you were replying! IMHO. Those speeds shouldn't cause this. I agree they aren't that great however!

Safe mode might give us a clue???? Shouldn't be malware after restoring to factory. Safe mode with networking is a good place to start.

I will bow out now!

Hi Gary. You can pick up malware in an instant so back to factory doesn't come into it.

I gave N3 advice as a starting point to check any malware involvement and a process of elimination.:)

Are you having the same problem if you try using a different browser, N3?

I turned off the power of my modem for 30 seconds. Turned it back on & went into safe mode/ network. While in safe mode/network i tried the speed test again & here are the results. Ping: 14 ms.......Download Speed: 5.42 Mbps........Upload Speed: 0.88 Mbps.........Back in normal mode: Ping: 14 ms...Download Speed: 5.80 Mbps...Upload Speed: 0.84 Mbps. Using a different browser didn't help. I would like to mention that sometimes when clicking/tic a url i will get a message on the top of my screen...."redirecting you to mandrillapp.com" with the url name next to it.

I thought I fixed that issue. You're problem is the redirect link that our new mail service adds to track click throughs and bounced emails.

I removed that feature last time you had problems so in the new emails there should be only a link to the content with out the tracking URL from Mandril our mail service provider.

I will double check to make sure it's off.

I don't believe that I get that anymore. At least I haven't seen it in a while.

Yes you probably were. I had it off in one spot and not in another.

That still doesn't fix N3's problem with his redirected links. I tested the links from my last email in IE, Firefox and Opera. They all redirected instantly. There must be a problem with the way his email client handles redirects.

The redirecting problem occured before & after i restored my computer to the factory default. Also it occurs with the three email clients that i have.
