FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted February 27, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted February 27, 2015 The efforts by Lenovo just one week after admitting fault in the Superfish debacle now focuses on what they plan to do in the future. According to a company spokesperson that begins with offering a free six month subscription to the McAfee LiveSafe service (or extending it for current users) and they plan to provide the details about that within the next week. McAfee LiveSafe is described as an identity protection service and just happens to be one of the pre-installed pieces of software on Lenovo consumer PC's (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/mcafee/) with a 30 day trial. Interesting. Also in today's statement from Lenovo they say their goal is to become the leader in providing cleaner, safer PC's. We are starting immediately, and by the time we launch our Windows 10 products, our standard image will only include the operating system and related software, software required to make hardware work well (for example, when we include unique hardware in our devices, like a 3D camera), security software and Lenovo applications. This should eliminate what our industry calls “adware” and “bloatware.” For some countries, certain applications customarily expected by users will also be included. Lenovo will post information about ALL software we preload on our PCs that clearly explains what each application does. And we will continuously solicit feedback from our user community and industry experts to ensure we have the right applications and best user experience. I continue to watch with the same view many of you have expressed - the proof is in the actions not the talk. http://winsupersite.com/windows/lenovo-promises-lead-way-cleaner-and-safer-computers Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~

DSTM Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I agree. Complete damage control. Must have cost them in lost sales. donetao Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Hey Cindy! I have worked on a couple Lenovo's. I just have a old Toshiba lap top. That's all my wife will a low in our tiny retirement cottage. I think my next lappy will be a Lenovo. Everyone makes a mistake. I've made more than my share. I agree with "A little late"! I'm going to keep my eyes open and when this old Toshiba bites the dust, I'm going to give Lenovo a look!;);) I have been impressed with Dell and will consider them also. This old Toshiba has been good to me however. I really hate computers!!:agree: 1 Quote Some times you're the wind shield. Some times you're the bug!!:(
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted February 27, 2015 Author FPCH Admin Posted February 27, 2015 Dell and Toshiba are my top two choices. Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
DSTM Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I am thinking of the Intel i7 NUC that will take an SSD being released later in the year. Rich-M Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Toshiba I would never recommend as there are so many issues and Dell well the Small Business Division is still fine but Consumer Division I cannot believe you would even consider indulging in that. Their tech support is almost non existent and their quality rivals Acer and eMachine. Lenovo will always be number one. Get over the fact they all load malware enablers in their systems and the ones who have done it forever are Dell Consumer and HP. Asus and Msi would be my next recommendations. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted February 27, 2015 Author FPCH Admin Posted February 27, 2015 You forget, Rich. I subcontract for Dell. I am my own tech support and if I need any hardware they ship it right to me. N/C As for Toshiba, my husband loved his last two Toshiba laptops and he never had a problem with either one of them. 1 Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
donetao Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Maybe I should consider this! :big_ha: Quote Some times you're the wind shield. Some times you're the bug!!:(
FPCH Admin AWS Posted February 27, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted February 27, 2015 We use HP laptops and Dell desktops. Have contracts with both. We used to use Gateway and I for 1 was glad when they told me to find the replacement. Talk about bad tech support. I'd order a replacement part on Monday and get it a month later. FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted February 27, 2015 Author FPCH Admin Posted February 27, 2015 Gateway is awful to be sure. Dell usually overnights me replacement parts. donetao Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 It's really very nice for seniors. I have helped seniors sit them up here at Golden Oaks. If my mother was alive, I would get one! Quote Some times you're the wind shield. Some times you're the bug!!:(
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted February 27, 2015 Author FPCH Admin Posted February 27, 2015 I meant that the hardware is pretty cheesy for the price that they want. The features themselves actually look awesome. FPCH Admin AWS Posted February 27, 2015 FPCH Admin Posted February 27, 2015 Dell has been good to me. Our stuff is old enough now that I'll just buy replacements for anything that breaks and have it overnighted. Laptops get replaced every 3 years and HP has been very good since I started using them 3 years ago. 1 Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
donetao Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Yes It is pretty pricie, but it does all seniors need. It will even read your email out loud and the touch screen works great when the senior can't find their mouse.:D The hardware is cheesy, but it really works well. For 10$$ a month, you get 7/24 hour help. I checked them out and they were the nicest old people to work with. I was really impressed! Has Skype. Seniors aren't into all the stuff that we are. They like simple. No anti-virus needed. It has it's own. Uses Linux. I serious would get one for my mom if she was alive! I think the price will come down in the future. 1 Quote Some times you're the wind shield. Some times you're the bug!!:(
