Rich-M Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I have been using that as well Pete lately as it seems lately some of the Malware Removal I have done has been quite destructive and I am starting to try to narrow in on which product is causing this. yesterday i.e. no doubt it was "Hitman Pro" that crippled a system removing an MBR rootkit. Quote
DSTM Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I installed "Hitman Pro" a few days ago and wasn't impressed. I uninstalled it. Another program I tried was "SpyHunter4" What rubbish and had difficulty getting it off my system completely. I road test a lot of programs.:) Quote Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm Schizophrenic, and so am I Free Photo Restoration and Repair for all Forum members - CLICK HERE Please pop back and let us know if your Computer problem has been solved.
Rich-M Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Funny I just decided to try Spy Hunter maybe because Gimbo said he uses it the other night and I have to agree it is rubbish and after claiming to find all sorts of things and you need to buy it to remove them. When you refuse and uninstall it offers to sell it to you for $10. Hell WOT went off when I went to the site to begin with. Quote
Rich-M Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Hitman Pro though is a good product Dougie and actually probably the best one against the Crypto Lockker group. I do feel it is very thorough in some areas but not yet a really complete product in my estimation, but a good component of an arsenal of different products nevertheless. Quote
DSTM Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 My best defense against "Crypto Locker" is I have my OS cloned onto another HDD with Macrium and keep it updated. I have to agree re "Hitman Pro" just didn't do it for me. The layered security I have now is really working great. Use whatever works for you.:) Quote Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm Schizophrenic, and so am I Free Photo Restoration and Repair for all Forum members - CLICK HERE Please pop back and let us know if your Computer problem has been solved.
Rich-M Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 As long as that hard drive is offline you are ok but remember 2 things. Crypto Locker travels across a network at great speeds and as soon as you restore your image file it can also be encrypted unless the virus is completely gone. I would low level format the drive before even trying a restore. 1 Quote
DSTM Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Good advice, Rich. I have done a lot of reading on "Crypto Locker" Each computer has a cloned back up on an external drive not hooked up to my network. Better safe than sorry. Rich-M Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Yeah this one really is the scariest thing we have ever faced and what makes it so scary is there are still not real 100% cures and we are nearing 2 years since its inception. Quote

Very profitable for the Crypto gang. I read in the first 100 days they made $30 mil. Rich-M Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I just spent an extra hour getting rid of the remnants of Spy Hunter. How could anyone think that is a useful program? Yeah this one made a lot of money for "the dark side", Dougie. Quote
DSTM Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Only two programs have given me problems removing every trace, and I have road tested many. One is Spyhunter 4 and the other was 0&0 defrag. 0&0 was worse than Spyhunter. Rich-M Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Wow I used O&O years ago that was a decent program. Well I used O&O Defragger. Quote
DSTM Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 0&0 Defraggler is a good program, Rich. I run mostly SSD's now and no longer needed it. The uninstall was the headache.Took me ages to get rid of all traces.
