Whether you're on an airplane, in the middle of traffic, or halfway through your housework, playlists are a great way to make sure that when your current podcast finishes playing there's another one queued up and ready to go. Sometimes, however, you want more control than a preset playlist provides. Some podcast apps include an "up next" feature that lets you override the playlist and fast track an alternative episode. Overcast for iPhone and iPad, however, simply lets you grab a show and drag it to the top, or to manually reorder it any way you like. Best of all, it's easy to do!

Note: If you don't have Overcast installed already, you can download it from the App Store.

How change the order of shows in an Overcast playlist

  1. Tap on the Playlist you want to override.
  2. Tap on Edit at the top right.
  3. Touch and hold the grabber to the right of the episode you want to reorder.
  4. Drag the episode to the top, or to whatever position in the list you like.
  5. Tap Done.

The reordered episode will now play in its new spot in the sequence.
