We all know the frustration that comes with plugging in a USB device. It seems like no matter how hard we try, it can take up to 5 tries to put the stupid thing in and personally I always thought the problem was pebkac (problem exists between the keyboard and the chair for those who don't know).

This year at CES, the producers behind USB are making a strong effort to simply this little and useful device. Dubbed USB Type-C or USB 3.1, the group showcased some prototypes with this new device in how it is faster ( up to 10 gbps), stronger, and easier. Much emphasis has been placed on making the port itself sturdier and better able to take more frequent device removal than current plugs.

USB Type-C is a reversible connection that can be used from either side. Moreover, the new connector can be plugged into the device in any direction, gone are the days of getting it wrong on the first shot.

I sure hope this speed is noticeable because I don't know about anyone else but the incredible speed I saw between Usb 1.1 and 2,0 I see no where around Usb 3.0.

We first saw this type of strange connector on the newer iOS devices with Apple’s Lighting Connector and how it can be plugged in using any direction. Furthermore, this new increase of speed will now allow USB to compete against Intel’s Thunderbolt.
