Apple comes out swinging against BBC labor report, says no other company does more for workers

Apple is not happy about the recent report from the BBC alleging worker mistreatment at factories assembling Apple's devices. The report alleged, for instance, that workers fell asleep during their long shifts on iPhone 6 production lines, or were made to work several days in a row without a day off. Apple SVP of Operations Jeff Williams told employees in the UK that no other company is doing as much for workers. According to the Telegraph:

We know of no other company doing as much as Apple does to ensure fair and safe working conditions, to discover and investigate problems, to fix and follow through when issues arise, and to provide transparency into the operations of our suppliers.

Apple also said that they've seen widespread compliance with their workweek limit standards, though admitted that they could always do better.

When it comes to other issues, like tin mining in Indonesia, Williams said Apple could cut and run to avoid scrutiny, but rather than abandon the people there, Apple is choosing to engage and help improve conditions.
