Rich-M Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 As stated in another thread this client is one I have had many infection issues with and her husband is a heavy duty gamer with a hot Amd 8 core pc that it shares a network with so I decided this would be a good test for my new Emsisoft relationship. Installed on the Dell Inspiron 2020 I was a little concerned with the length of time to update the new install because while on Comcast everything is quick, I have still many Verizon Dsl clients with very slow service and this software updates fully after install. A call to my contact provided me with a better site to download the install from. A site that has the updates included as Emsisoft.com seems it does not do. I installed Emsisoft and ran the "Quick Scan" and I had just cleaned this system a week ago and it has WD and Malwarebytes Pro on it as well as WOT and Adblock Plus and was surprised and actually quite excited about the fact I pulled another 30 infections out of the registry doing the "Quick Scan". I decided the client should do the longer scan on his own and he will let me know if anything else showed up but what was pulled are genuine infections. Not enablers or pups which means there is a need for Emsisoft even when good products are installed onboard. For that reason I am leaning towards ending my relationship with Mbam and only time will tell. On my own systems nothing new showed up doing full scans with Emsisoft. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted November 29, 2014 FPCH Admin Posted November 29, 2014 Interesting... I have always had a lot of faith in Malwarebytes. This is giving me a slight cause for pause. Rich-M Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 I have been worried for over a year since I had a few units where Mbam did not remove or even detect Av 2014 versions and I have never felt its site detection is that good either. When other programs start to have better scan results, that's when we really need to concern ourselves. I knew that sooner or later some software maker would finally make a total product effectively and none of the existing Antivirus makers have ever done so so I felt it would take a "new kid on the block" to do that. At first I thought that product would be Hitman Pro, and it is a useful scanner, but is not across the board enough to be a complete solution is the conclusion I came to after playing with both for a year.Just as Sas was "king of the hill" of the hill until it wasn't, I feel Mbam is about due to give that status up! Don't think they know it? Why else go from lifetime subscription to renewable? Grab all the cash you can before you go down! Ad Muncher is a great example of this. Just as they were about to lose it they did the same thing. They aren't stupid. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted November 29, 2014 FPCH Admin Posted November 29, 2014 Ad-Muncher was a great disappointment to me. I spent a lot of money on six extra license keys right before it stopped performing. starbuck Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I run Emsisoft on my 2 Win7 systems and have never had any complaints about it. But then again, i run Eset nod32 on my Win8.1 .... and never have any problems from that either. Have never run the full MBAM premium .... only the free version. I have heard of problems with the premium version so have always stayed away from it. 1 Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted November 30, 2014 FPCH Admin Posted November 30, 2014 I run Nod and Mbam Premium on my computers. I've only had one problem with Mbam and you helped me with that not too long ago. Rich-M Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 I ran Nod32 and Mbam Pro for years without an issue except a registration issue one time, I just think the time for Mbam has come is all and there has to be better out there. Cindy it is hard to predict when a software is going downhill but its always going to happen. Quote
