mikehende Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Hello, after getting too many viruses on this EeePc 1001PX Netbook I am trying to do a recovery but not seeing an English language option and even now when I try to go back to the original windows 7 I am still getting the recovery screen to select the language, what can I do here please? I have a win7 disk with Home Premium but this netbook came with "Starter" edition. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted November 16, 2014 FPCH Admin Posted November 16, 2014 Do you get any language options at all, Mike? Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~

mikehende Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Yeah Cindy, I used the utility to remove the ei.cfg file from the win7 Starter edition iso then created a boot dvd and it worked exactly as mentioned, all looks well. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted November 16, 2014 FPCH Admin Posted November 16, 2014 Good to hear, I'm glad it worked out for you, Mike. :) Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
mikehende Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Only issue I am seeing now concerns the updating, I started windows update yesterday at around 3.3opm and now at 6.23 this morning it is at 121 of 165 but that was the last number I remember seeing at 9pm last night just before I went to bed so looks like it's stuck there, what's the ebst thing I can do at this point please? DSTM Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Hi Mike. If the updates have stopped.I would cancel the updates. Reboot the computer look for updates again. I would only bring the updates down in groups. Normal updates say 10-15 at a time. Net frameworks only about 5 at a time as they can be quite large. I have seen this method work before. Wait and see what Cindy thinks. mikehende Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Thanks but can't wait as the unit's owner needs the laptop for work right away, looks like something got stuck so I was forced to do a hard shut down then restarted and tried the updates again, this time it picked up from where it left off and completed the rest of the updates. FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted November 17, 2014 FPCH Admin Posted November 17, 2014 I'm glad it worked out for you, Mike. I never get all of the updates at one time, for future reference. They can get hung up. It might have been SP1 that created the problem. Rich-M Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 The owner uses a netbook for work? Yikes those things are so slow and as a work unit it has to cost time. I tried everything with mine as I got it to 2 gb and had everything out of startup and I still could not use it. Everyone I gave it to gave it back to me complaining how slow it was. I finally got lucky selling it on eBay and mine was the one you were repairing. It has to be the Atom cpu causing that and since none of them can use more than 2 gb ram, I do not see them anymore.
