Posted October 24, 201410 yr I am trying to create 2 dvd's with win8 pro [32 and 64bits] and 2 with win8.1 from this link: http://getintopc.com/softwares/operating-systems/download-windows-8-pro/ I installed Magiciso utility to make sure the win8 iso file is bootable and created the disk in imgburn but when I tried it this morning, the system would not boot from the disk but boots fine from another disk with win8 on it, any ideas please?
October 27, 201410 yr Author Ok guys, the disks are bootable, it was the legacy issue which was preventing it from booting on that machine. What I'd like to know now is since the versions in the download link are win8 Pro, what happens if I load on a machine which has win8 standard, would he embedded license still work?

Short answer is NO. You need a bootable ISO exactly the same as what version that is installed on the computer. October 28, 201410 yr Author Thanks so then my main problem whenever someone brings a pc with a corrupted drive and recovery will be how to know which version was installed on that unit, no way to get this info from the bios?
October 31, 201410 yr Mike that problem isn't new although prior units would have had stickers at least to tell you the version. There are Windows 8 and 8.1 stickers underneath every laptop with it installed they would say Pro if that were pro as I have seen a few however, if you play the odds, the failure of 8 came mostly from businesses who never adopted it so 98% of the units you see are standard for that reason. The standard versions just say Windows 8 and there were no Home Premium or basic versions anyway. Remember also they did away with oem and retail in 8.1 so we do not have to worry about that issue either for finding the right disk. A system builders disk would have all versions on it and the disk identifies the Coa which determines which version to use so having one of them would be the easiest way to solve the issue and I have seen same available for sale on eBay.
