mikehende Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 Still can't figure out how to find WMP and Paint in 8.1? Quote
Rich-M Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 just clicki anywhere on the Metro (Start) screen and "search" comes up Mike. That is the quickest way to find anything but again I would add Vlc Player as it adds way more functionality. Quote
mikehende Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 Thanks Rich, actually that works much better than win7 and all previous versions Quote
mikehende Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 Oh BTW, if ever the need to downgrade back from 8.1 to 8, whats the safest way? Quote
Rich-M Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I don't believe that can be done as it is not like an Update but why would you want to anyway as Windows 8.1 runs so much better than 8. Quote
mikehende Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 Well, yes, I had originally installed 8 then "updated" to 8.1 so I am just wondering if I can revert back to 8? Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted October 31, 2014 FPCH Admin Posted October 31, 2014 You can't Mike, not without an image backup. Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
mikehende Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 ok, appreciate all of the help, you guys have a safe and enjoyable halloween ! Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted October 31, 2014 FPCH Admin Posted October 31, 2014 You're welcome, Mike. You too. Quote ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
Rich-M Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Your terminology is wrong Mike, you didn't update to 8.1 you upgraded to 8.1 and that is why you cannot undo it basically. Quote
FPCH Admin allheart55 Cindy E Posted October 31, 2014 FPCH Admin Posted October 31, 2014 No, they do actually call it an update, Rich. MS is trying to hide the fact that it's actually an upgrade. Rich-M Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I know the banner say "update to 8.1" however it is an upgrade really because it is an OS all to its own being saold that way. That is why the codes for 8.0 do not work on 8.1, because it is not really an update, they couldn't. Quote
donetao Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I've always been told that the HDD is unrelated to a linux OS and is one way to know if the HDD is bad [if the linux loads and runs properly]? Hi I'm new to the forum. Well actually I was a member before , but left for awhile. It's true that Linux loads from RAM and doesn't need a working HD. If the HD is not completely toasted, you should be able to boot with a Linux OS, but that does not mean that your HD is not going bad. You could have bad sectors that are causing you grief and a HD that is getting ready to fail. IMHO you should try a chkdsk. If you can't do that, then I suggest seagate dos to check your HD. These are my opinions and they might not be shared here on the forum. Linux is great for recovering data on a HD that won't boot into windows. I realize that this is a old thread, but this is my 2 cents on this subject! http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/201271en 1 Quote Some times you're the wind shield.
