With their usual vigor, iFixit has taken this gorgeous display and picked it apart, piece by piece, in pursuit of documenting each and every component inside.

Packing some powerful hardware, the basic guts of the new iMac have already been listed in detail. If you're a bit more curious, however, you may want to know what exactly powers the display on this beast. As iFixit details, Apple gets a helping hand from quite a bit of Texas Instruments hardware in order to render its 5210 x 2880 resolution. Apart from the new display tech, the new iMac appears to share the exact same hardware as last year's model.

Unfortunately, the new iMac scores the same 5/10 on iFixit's repairability index. Pluses include its user-replacable ram, hard drive, CPU, and modular components. However, points were knocked off for having to deal with a cumbersome sheet of double-sided tape and fused display panel.

To recap, the new Retina iMac's specs are as follows:

  • 1TB Fusion Drive
  • 8GB RAM
  • 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 CPU
  • AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics processor with 2 GB of GDDR5 video memory
  • 2x Thunderbolt 2 ports

Be sure to check out our hands-on with the new iMac, as well as all of our coverage from Apple's event yesterday.

Are you planning on picking up one of these beauties? Does iFixit's teardown influence your decision? Sound off in the comments.
