Sort of........

 

I've received some incredulous emails from readers who claim that Microsoft is actually pushing the Windows Technical Preview—an early, pre-release version of Windows 10—to them via Windows Update. But that's not what's happening. Instead, you'll only see that update in Windows Update if you've already signed up for the Windows Insider Program and indicated you're interested in the Preview.

 

 

Controversy over? It should be. But since we live in a world in which Microsoft never get it right, you just know someone is going to misreport this one.

 

So nothing to see here. Except for one thing: How come Windows 8/8.1 users who sign up for the Windows Insider Program aren't seeing this update in Windows Update?

 

I guess Microsoft really wants Windows 7 users to upgrade.

I actually used that windows update on one windows7 computers.

It wiped the windows7 os completely and just left my data.

Big mistake.

Can't reverse. Had to reinstall Windows 7.

I had hoped it would have come down as a separate preview.

You should always read the precautions and instructions thoroughly before you proceed.

 

Remember, trying out an early build like this can be risky. That's why we recommend that you don't install the preview on your primary home or business PC. Unexpected PC crashes could damage or even delete your files, so you should back up everything.

 

After you install Windows Technical Preview, you won’t be able to use the recovery partition on your PC to go back to your previous version of Windows.

 

You'll need to reinstall your version of Windows from the recovery or installation media that came with your PC (typically DVD media)

 

If you want to try it again, download the ISO and convert it to a bootable media. This way, you can install in on a separate partition in a dual boot, if you wish, Dougie.

It seems you can uninstall the Technical Preview if you've gotten it via Windows Update. :real_anger:

I feel your pain.

I wish I had of known it was possible, Cindy.

I read somewhere that the only option was a fresh install of the previous OS which I did.

Takes time to get a fresh install tweaked the way it was.

I know it takes a lot of time to get your system back to exactly the way you want it.

Wow it sounds hard to believe that Ms would be that stupid to offer it as an update to a working final version OS.

It's a shame you had to spend all that time Dougie.

They said they were planning to do that. They want to test Windows update so when they roll out Windows 10 the upgrade will be easy. I don't know why they did it so early unless they plan to release sooner than expected.
