Posted September 16, 201410 yr Someone installed a linux OS on this guy's Acer Aspire laptop, he wants me to load win7 but when I get the install windows screen, it is showing "Windows cannot be installed to this hard Disk space, Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS. I searched the net but can't find instructions on how to do this from the win7 disk?
September 16, 201410 yr FPCH Admin Right-click computer > Manage > Disk Management. In the DM Window (At the bottom) select the drive you wish to format. Right-click the drive select Format > NTFS > Quick. September 16, 201410 yr Author I can't get to windows because the linux OS is password protected so anything I need to do has to be done from the win7 disk.
September 16, 201410 yr FPCH Admin I would strap the hard drive to another computer and format it from there. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
September 16, 201410 yr FPCH Admin Oh, you want to format it using a Windows disk? ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
September 16, 201410 yr FPCH Admin Boot to the Windows DVD and after you reach the license agreement click on the Custom or Advanced tab. Click the Drive Options or Advanced tab and Select Format. See screenshot.... ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
September 16, 201410 yr Author I had tried that but the Format option was shaded. I also do not have the option to delete the partition. Right now I am going to try Parted Magic to delete that partition.
September 16, 201410 yr FPCH Admin You have to highlight or select the drive in the upper window in order for the delete and format options to be available. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
September 16, 201410 yr FPCH Admin Let us know how you fare, Mike. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
September 16, 201410 yr FPCH Admin Glad to hear it, Mike. ~I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~ ~~Robert McCloskey~~
September 18, 201410 yr Good job I really love Parted Magic especially when you are in a situation like a Linux drive and cannot get into Windows.
