Guest Chuong H Nguyen Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Some incredible designs may be in Apple's future as the Cupertino, California iPhone-maker has confirmed that it has hired famed designer Marc Newson to join Jonathan Ive. Ive and Newson have been friends for years and the two had collaborated on product designs for Apple, including a Product Red Mac Pro, which sold at auction for a cool $13 million. Though Newson may be working for Apple now, he is still allowed to pursue other projects outside of Apple, so it'll be interesting to see if Apple's design philosophies extend to other projects that Newson may be working on. Newson said in a statement: I'm full of admiration and respect for the extraordinary design work that has been produced by Jony and the team at Apple. My close friendship with Jony has not only given me a unique insight into that process, but the opportunity to work together with him and the people that have been responsible. I am enormously proud to join them. Whether Newson will join in time to have his fingerprints be part of the debut iWatch launch is still unclear, but Apple seems to be on a hiring spree to infuse design, technology, and engineering with its latest notable hires, including Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendt to lead retail, luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer's marketing executive Jean-Claude Biver, Yves St. Laurent's Paul Deneve and Catherine Monier, and Ben Shaffer of Nike fame. Talk about talent diversity! What do you make of Newson's new role at Apple? Source: Vanity Fair Continue reading... Quote
